::ncbelle:: or other wrappers

Hi.  Lately I've been drooling over wovens and how pretty and awesome they are, and my dinky DIY gauze wrap just isn't cutting it for me anymore.  I keep the Ergo in the car for when we're out, but I really want to be able to snuggle up with C at home in a cozy wrap so I can get stuff done.

So pretty please, match me with a wrap!!  I live in Las Vegas, so it's SUPER hot in the summer.  C is 9 months and 20lbs, but we're TTC so I want something that will support a heavy toddler but will also snuggle a squishy newborn.

I'm looking at BB-Slens because they seem to be among the most affordable. Does that sound like my best option (PS, DH would flip if I spent $100+ on a wrap right now, I might be able to swing the $60 BB-Slen, lol)?  I'm really wanting to do high back carries because when C is on my back he leans far to one side to see what I'm doing, which is uncomfortable for both of us and scary for me.  I want to put him high up where he can see everything.

I'm 5' 10", medium/athletic build with big boobs.  I'd like to keep wrapping when I get pregnant (depending on how soon that happens).  I keep looking at the longest wraps because I figure better to have too much than too little, but really I have no idea.

School me!

  • Aw crap, just realized the $60 was for a shorty and I'm still looking at $90-$100.

Well my birthday is coming up...

  • Thanks for the input! Could you show me a pic of your other BBS?  I'll look into Vats, FSOT is still so intimidating to me!  I've never heard of Hoppediz, off to google I go!

i don't have a picture; it's the passionfruit one like this.  i think it's 5.2 m, so very long.  i'm really not trying to sell it to you though because i think you'll be happier with a Vatanai.  If you do want to try the BBS, i'll sell it for $70 ppd (PayPal).  New Vats can run about $100-130 for a longer wrap:

Thanks!  It's very pretty, but if you had a blueberry or papaya I might not have been able to say no :)

I'll look around and try and find a vat, but I'll keep you in the back of my mind.  Thanks for your help!

  • Just my .02, I was just telling DH that my N?obulle is too long and I'm in the market for a mid-length. I always thought that erring on the side of too long was wise like you but quickly learned that too much is worse than too little. Lately, I've been loving my Didy shortie and doing RUBs both at home and out & about. It's a great carry for a toddler and you can do a rebozo or buy rings at www.slingrings.com (I think I have that right) and use it as a RS for #2 (best wishes, BTW!!). As for a lightweight wrap, I have the Bali Breeze and I like it...I don't love it. I'm also eying up a Vat and saw a site where you can do layaway. Shoot. Gonna have to go looking for the site. BRB

  • Thanks Strawberry!

Now I'm torn.  I definitely want a longer wrap so I can do all the different carries, and I'm tall, that's why I've been looking at the long ones.

Can someone come to my house and tell me what wrap to get, then show me how to use it?  Kthanks.

  • I've been on the hunt for a Vat myself... I have an Orkney on TT and I'm loving it.  They seem to be in pretty high demand right now and I'd bet it'll just get worse as summer approaches.

That said, I find that in the heat I'm more effected by the carry than the wrap itself.  Any multi-layer carry that's wrapped all the way around you is going to be crazy hot.  I'm cooler rucking in my blankety Earthy Rainbow than I am doing a double hammock in my BBSlen or Vat.

Just something to keep in mind if you're planning on starting out with a really long wrap..  you need to do something to use up all that length and it tends to involve wrapping it around your torso IME.

This is a very good point.  Now I'm even more confused!!  Should I just go for a mid-sized wrap and hope for the best?

  • Personally, I'd buy a size 4 in a colorway that you love that isn't terribly thick or dark if you'll be wearing outside.  For me 4's are long enough to do pretty much any carry I want that doesn't involve wrapping around my torso.

Do keep in mind that wraps have great resale value too!  It's so easy to sell or trade at or near the value that you paid minus shipping, shopping for something new is half of the fun for me.  Don't fret too much over finding the perfect wrap cause if you're anything like most of us you'll try a dozen before you really even know what you like.

    Thanks :)

I love blues and purples.  The Vatanai Kipawa is amazing.  Why can't I just decide what I want and go get it?  There's so much hunting involved! lol

  • You're shirt size is more important than height. I would buy your base size as your first wrap. Most ppl are a 5 or 6. If you wear a XS or S or barely a medium, go with a 5. If your larger, use a 6. Practice wrapping & basic carries first, then if you want to go up or down a size or add more wraps to the stash, go from there.
