I was out shopping with some friends today and, of course, decided to peruse the baby section. While there checking out a few things this lady asked my opinion about an item, (if it was boy or girl gendered- it was neutral) and then asked how far along I was. I answered that I am just about 12 weeks and her reponse (after taking a peek at my growing belly) "Oh..."
"Oh..."...what is that supposed to mean?
I am showing already (I am short and have a short torso, so everything is growing outwards already). I knew people made these comments but this was my FIRST experience. I got her back though- asked how far along SHE was and she wasnt...just purchasing a gift! HA!
Re: Really??!!
It is only going to get better...just wait!
I had one bright spot in my last pregnancy though - one of my 9 y/o patients said, "Your pregnant? I thought people got fat when they were pregnant? You don't look fat!" (I was a large 30 weeks at this point & very appreciative. He went on to tell me how fat his mom looked in pictures when she was pregnant with him - so funny b/c his mom is super slim.)
At any given time during my first pregnancy, strangers would come up and say random things. Some would say, "Oh, you're only 6 months? You're huge!" and the very same day someone would say, "Oh, you're already 6 months? You're barely showing!"
I learned to tune it out, because clearly no one knows anything.
