You missed my meltdown this morning! :-P It's hard to me to stay motivated too. Someone suggested taking 15 minutes every day to do some kind of cleaning... that way it doesn't get out of control. I am going to start doing that!
Frankly, I need a gathering at our house to get my butt in gear. Then if I'm really lucky, I can keep it up. That's not to say that I don't have to nag DH or DD#1 to pick up after themselves!
We had DS's birthday party here this weekend. 4 bags of garbage. 2 loads in the dishwasher (and we used plastic plates and forks!). And I'm really beginning to wonder why I even bothered vacuuming!
I try to pick one room a day to work on and de-clutter while DS is in school. Other than making dinner(which DS helps with), I don't do other household tasks when DS is home. And obviously the kitchen/bathroom needs to get wiped down more or less every day. We have housekeeper come in once a week to do the major cleaning, but I swear the hardest job is just keeping up with laundry!
i prioritize and do 15 mins at a time... keeping the kitchen sink clean is my biggest priority, for some reason it makes me house feel "clean"
DH helps by picking up toys when he gets home, and other than spending an extra 15 mins a day doing "something" else (like wiping down a bathroom or vacuuming one floor of my house) i mostly keep up with it, i also have one whole day for laundry... DD and i sit down stairs (gasp: i let her watch TV) and we do laundry all day...

I wouldn't be if I had a 2.5 year old AND was pregnant - you poor thing, go put your feet up!!!
Actually Emily is 2 and is pretty independent so, I tend to clean as I go all day long and I sweep and mop the kitchen floors during each of her meals so she is restrained in her highchair and can't slip and fall. ha! I have DH do all the laundry and help me with the bathrooms every Sunday and we have a housekeeper do the big major stuff each month.
I make a list of everything that needs to be done, and I mean everything no matter how small a task it may be. Then I spend a solid 20 minutes doing the tasks. Once you start crossing things off it sort of motivates me to continue. And the list also helps DH know what needs to be done without me nagging.
Fear motivates me! I'm always afraid someone will come over and see a mess, so I try to keep on top of tasks so that it never gets too dirty. Once it is messy, it feels overwhelming to me and the mess just grows. I think clutter attracts more clutter. Now that DD is older, I've started taking a shower with her in the morning so that I can clean during her nap. I used to take my shower then, but I never felt like I was accomplishing anything. This way I get the grooming out of the way and still have "alone" time in my day.

On the other side of the fence - where I clean everyday - its not all flowers and cake either. I am working on my need to be 'clutter free' all the time, cause it's probably driving my kids crazy. Just do what you can & if you're spending time with the kids instead of cleaning - good for you!!
