Bedsharing help, jamie fell off the bed this morning...

She learned to crawl a couple days ago and since hasn't slowed down at all and this morning she rolled/crawled right off the edge of the bed on DH side.

She wasn't hurt it just scared her, but I'm not sure what to do now.

DH works nights so he's usually not in bed with us and his side is open, he doesn't want a rail on his side. I have a rail on my side, but with his side open it seems pointless. She starts between me and the rail but we switch sides to nurse and I've tried to stay awake and roll her back over, but I can't lol. I've heard of people nursing on both breasts without rolling over, but I have virtually no boobs so this isn't an option :(

I'm thinking about doing a floor bed but DH is handicapped and it would make it really hard for him to get in and out... He said he was fine with it, but I'm wondering if we have another option...

TIA

  • I have seen the bed rails that tuck under the mattress. May I ask why he is so against one? I think it would be much more work to make a floor bed especially if you have an empty bed for you to use every night.

  • I don't have the rails yet but could you move it before he went to bed and have it for just the 2 of you?

  • I'm not quite sure what he has against it lol. I've asked and he says, "I don't know, just because..."

Maybe show him the ones that tuck under that way when he's in bed he doesn't have to bother with it.

Thats what we have... Although I did remember my other reason for deciding against the rail... She is pulling up on mine and it's short enough that when she pulls up if I'm not holding onto her she would fall over it :( She needs to slow down!

  • Can you start with her on the side without the rail, stay awake until she is asleep, then move while she is sleeping so she ends up between you and the rail and then you don't have to worry about moving when you wake in the night?

If she only woke once then yeah that would work perfectly, but she usually wakes 3-4 times a night (every 2-3 hrs)

I'm thinking a floor bed is our best choice :( Thanks everyone for the suggestions though!

  • Keep working on the nursing without rolling over to the other side. I'm not very well-endowed, either, and we were able to do this after I got the hang of it.
