Convertible carseat for 2 month old?

DD need a new carseat because we were in a wreck, (head on with a dump truck =/)

In my previous post I asked which brand was liked best. But now I'm leaning toward a convertible since she is already 12 lbs and will outgrow an infant seat in a few months.

Opinions?

Re: Convertible carseat for 2 month old?

  • I think it's fine.  We plan to use our convertible in DH's car, and the regular seat in mine.  If they fit the weight limit I don't see the issue.

  • Recaro Pro Ride is an AMAZING convertible. It goes up to 80lbs FF (if I remember correctly) We have 2 of them. One for each car. We also have a Combi Cocorro. It's smaller and has a lower weight limit of 45lbs FF but it's just as good and will fit better in a compact car.

If you have the room (in something the size of a Camry or larger), I'd say definitely go for the Recaro.

  • We have a First years tru fit ready for when dd out grows the infant seat. DS was in his by 4 months because I got sick and tired of lugging a 14lbs baby in it. (he was bigge then dd) I found it was great.

Also the fist years is ff to 65 lbs, I love the fact that you can adjust the straps without having to take it out and when it's rear facing the head rest part comes off so it fits better at a larger angle (the 45 degree) until they are taller. It's also rear facing with the head rest until 35 lbs.

  • No baby here yet (hopefully soon) but we only have a convertible. Our childbirth instructor was also certified with doing car seat inspections and said that they are a safer and better option so I would say go for it. I definitely wouldn't want a bucket seat if they would grow out of them that fast.

  • It's definitely fine to do, but just wanted to mention that some infant seats go up to 30/35 pounds. Insurance should pay to replace the seat.

  • Yup that's fine. A convertible can hold from 5 lbs to 65 lbs, just make sure you look at the weight restrictions of the specific one you'll get.
