Hi Ladies,
The last two nights my 4.5 week old daughter has started sleeping in 5-5.5hr increments instead of her usual 3-4hr ones.  I of course consider this a blessing since I'm the one getting up to feed her but my husband seems concerned.  He thinks she's way to young to be sleeping this long at night and worries she won't be getting enough feedings. He believes she shouldn't start sleeping longer at night until 6 months!  She's not taking any additional formula at the night feedings but is eating more frequently during the day.  I don't see her night sleeping as an issue but thought I'd see what other mommies have to say.
Re: When did your baby start STTN? - Debate with DH
As long as she is back to her birth weight (and not losing weight) she can sleep as long as she wants.
Sadly dd1 didn't start STTN until 15 months, but I don't think that's the norm.....
DS starteed around 6 weeks. DD is going right now 3-4 hours at night.. I'm wondering what kind of sleeper she is going to be.
As long as she is content and eating a ton during the day and growing. let her sleep, babies need sleep just as much as they need food to grow!
this for DD2. DD1 started STTN on occasion at 2 months and regularly at 3 months.
Definitely let her sleep and get some sleep yourself!!
Tell your husband he is 100% right, and he should definitely be the one to wake her up every 3 hours all night to feed her, even if she doesn't seem hungry. Better yet, every 2 hours. See how long his concern lasts
Just kidding! She's fine. After they regain their birth weight, let babies sleep! She will wake up if she needs you. Enjoy it! A sleeping baby is a beautiful thing...
Just a lurker, and my baby isn't born yet, but I thought I'd offer this.
MIL worked for years as a NICU nurse, and she says DH STTN the day they brought him home. Both of her children were STTN by 6 weeks. Now, I don't think that's "normal," necessarily, but clearly STTN young is nothing to worry about---it's something to be thankful for!
Are you FF? FF babies can sleep longer sooner. We EBF and I don't have any expectation of LO SSTN until 6 months or longer. That said, the longest he's gone so far was 5h. While I don't think I would wake him since he is thriving, past birth weight, and my BM supply is established--I might be concerned about engorgement or a supply drop if he slept much longer than that.
