Please be VERY careful if you use oral gels for treating teething pain. One of the active ingredients, benzocaine, can cause a fatal disease in infants. When I learned this, it really freaked me out. Personally, I wouldn't take the risk. I'm sticking to Tylenol or Motrin for teething pain. The information is widely available, even published in medical journals, if you look for it.

I have told this story several times on this board but I'll repeat. My Dr knows a pediatrician who gave Orajel to her baby and the baby died! I will never ever give Orajel and tell this story to every new parent I know. I'd rather my baby be miserable than dead. DS is a horrible horrible teether and not much helps but Orajel numbs the gums and can also numb the tongue; a baby can then swallow his own tongue; you'll think "oh good, he's finally asleep" and go to bed, but he'll really be dead
