Hi all! I have a Moby Wrap which I love, so far have worn LO facing in, but will soon face her out as she is approaching 4 months and is really strong!
My question is about our sling. She didn't like it when she was littler but now that she is a little bigger and stronger she enjoys sitting up in it facing out. All the directions and You Tubes say to bunch up her legs, or "froggie" them I suppose, to have her sit in the sling. This is what I have done, and she actually doesn't seem to mind it at all, but it seems to me that it wouldn't be comfortable. Can bunching up her legs like that have negative orthopedic affects down the road? How big are they when you can't do that to them anymore?
And facing outward in the Moby... will this cause her to "hang" from her crotch too much, cutting off circulation to her legs? I know plenty of people have been doing all this forever, but sometimes I wonder how good it really is? I read a negative comment once about a baby dangling from it's crotch and have wondered about it ever since. I love wearing her, it is SO much easier to do housework and I prefer it to lugging around the stroller and/or car seat, but just want some opinions on these concerns I have. TIA!!
Re: Leg Position in Sling
When they start trying to stand in the carrier, the time for froggy legs is over.
The Moby isn't awesome for facing out, but just try and spread the fabric so LO's thighs are supported and all of the weight isn't on the crotch. I'm glad you're enjoying BWing!!
My understanding with "crotch dangling" is that it puts a lot of pressure on your spine. Imagine being dangled by your crotch and how your spine would have to try and steady itself vs having a nice seat for your bottom.
I know some people say that forward facing can also be uncomfortable for the wearer as it loads your spine uncomfortable and pulls on your shoulders.
It might be that you're ready to progres on from a moby and try a carrier where LO can be on your back and look over your shoulder.
I also have a sling where LO could be on my hip which allowed her to look around whilst I was comfortable. Once she got to around 10months though I started needing something I could carry on both shoulders.
Like pp said I'm glad you're enjoying babywearing and good luck exploring new options.
