G8orrel???????

Hi!! Our dr recommended fluocinolone acetone solution for cradle cap and applying ro her scalp twice a day. I feel awkward putting stuff on our babies head without researching it though and can't find much info on google. I think I remember your a dermatologist so what do you think and any tips on application? :) Tia!

Re: G8orrel???????

  • Hi! I do work in pediatric dermatology, but I'm a PA, not a physician. But I am on my own and see about 40-50 kids a day (while not on maternity leave!).

Did your pedi give you Dermasmoothe? Or the generic Fluocinolone? It's okay to use...i do say 2x day also, but I wouldn't go past 2 weeks. Steroids have potency rankings ranging from 7 (whichis like an OTC hydrocortisone) to 1 (which is super potent and I would never prescribe for a child). Fluocinolone is like a 6, so its fine.

There really is no right or wrong way to do it. You can put it on while the hair is wet or dry. I just wouldn't do it if you have plans b/c her hair will look greasy! DS doesn't have much hair, and he has some cradle cap,so I've been using a class 6 steroid on him and it's much better. Unfortunately I only had cream, no solution, so his hair is a mess, but again, he doesn't have much so it's ok!

  • "fougera"is the exact name on it. Thanks I'll try it tomorrow. I was a little worried because I put a little on my hand (and made dh put it on his head) and we both felt it felt a little warm so I didn't want it to irritate her.
  • Foguera is the drug company that makes it. It's either Dermasmoothe or Synalar...but now worries, not important!

Hmmm, it shouldn't feel warm. Did you rub in it? Maybe the rubbing creating friction made you feel warm? It shouldn't irritate her because steroids are anti-inflammatory. We use them to treat irritations, allergies, etc. But, you can be allergic to some as well.

  • No, you can rub it in with your fingers. I was just wondering if the rubbing created heat from friction adn that's why it felt warm.
