I had blood work done yesterday and Kaiser emails you the results. Well one of the tests was for Rubella and it came back positive. There was no further explanation or call from my OB. Turns out this can be extrememly dangerous to a fetus in the first trimester, causing severe birth defects, etc. which is why I am pissed that there was absolutely no follow up. Kaiser also has no OB advice nurse (awesome) and I was told that a message with my "concern" would be addressed by the OB Monday...WTF? Has anyone had this test result before? I was immunized for Rubella years ago, I mean isnt that what the freakin MMR is? Why would I test positive??? I am so scared
Re: Someone calm me down, please!
Take a deep breath. You are fine! The are testing for your immunity to Rubella, and you came back positive because you are positively immune to Rubella. Double check with your OB office - but I work in L&D and see this all the time! No need to be scared!
Hope that helps!

Like PPs said, testing positve for Ruebella is a good thing. It means your immunity is still active.
I had to get a booster immunity shot because mine was negative before we started TTC.
My husband said the same thing....the reason we questioned the resukts is it said my result was positive and the "standard result" is negative. what does that mean?
You can calm down..I am a pediatirc nurse, so I am confident that the test you had measured your immunity to rubella....and a positive test means you have protective antibodies and are not able to get rubella again! This is the test result you wanted. So now you can have a nice weekend!
A standard in any scientific test will likely be negative, that's how they know how much would be positive if they hold a "standard" against it that is negative. That is likely why they called it the standard result... not an average result or a target result.

OCT 2011 Moms BlogI am with you! I have Kaiser as well and I too tested positive for Rubella. I completely freaked out for a second. Thankfully, my bloodwork was done before my appointment. I talked with my midwife...she said exactly what the other ladies have said. That test was checking to make sure we received the immunization.
Good luck!
P.S. I am in So Cal, too.
