Blocked tear ducts

My LO has a severe case of "eye boogers" and after doing some reading, I am pretty sure he has blocked tear ducts. We're going to call the Dr. in the AM because they are really bad, but I read that massaging the area can help. Has anyone else dealt with this and were you able to treat it without any topical medications? It doesn't appear to bother him much, but it can't be comfortable.

My LO has a blocked tear duct on her left eye. It's gradually getting better - but still many times when she wakes up it's still pretty goopy. At her 2 week check up I mentioned it to her pediatrician & she told us the same thing; to massage the area right below her eye by the top of her nose. I've been doing with a warm washcloth every time I need to clean out her eye. It seems to be getting better gradually. My cousin's daughter though actually had a blocked tear duct until she was around 4 months old - I guess they can sometimes take awhile to open up.

Our DD had this before we left for the hospital and it lasted about 3 weeks. They just told us to use warm compresses and to massage it a couple of times a day. We didn't have to use any kind of medications. Hope this helps! Smile

DS started to get a goopy eye yesterday that was reaaaally bad but I just kept gently wiping it away all night long and I massaged the inner corner a lot which seemed to help. His eye is a lot better today and his eye isn't goopy anymore.

My LO has blocked tear ducts on both eyes, I talked to my pedi and she said (like PP's have said) to massage the corners of his eyes. She also said it is perfectly normal if it lasts up until he is a year old, but if it lasts any longer than that they will have to send him to a specialist so they can stick a needle in there and unclog it. (eek!)

Besides massage, if you are BF or pumping you can take a little breastmilk and rub it along your LO's eye. I have been doing this daily with my son and it has really helped him. Also, my pediatrician told me not to be surprised if it comes and go. Some mornings my son has no goop in his eye and other mornings he does. Just keep massaging the corner of his eye down along the side of his nose and use a warm washcloth with water to clean it. Good luck at the doctor!

My girl had this for a few days. I a little bit of eye boogers and lots of tears in the one eye even when not crying. I did the massage and just clean it away with a warm cloth and it cleared up in a about 5 days. Good luck!

My DS had these in both eyes and they cleared up in just a few weeks. I massaged the tear duct. Your gently rub your finger (make sure your finger nails are short) in a circle on the side of his nose, just under the eye.

My DD has had that for about three weeks. Mentioned it to the doctor and she said that cleaning her eye out with a warm washcloth would help and to massage the area. My MIL mentioned that putting breast milk in the eye would help, I tried it and not so much. Still doing the whole "cleaning it out" thing and little massages but I haven't seen much improvement.

This. My husband was born with one blocked tear duct and apparently our son has inherited this! I'm going to try to do the warm washcloth and massage that's recommended on here, but I think it's the type of thing that just goes away on its own (or you do a small surgery around 1 year old).
