I am a first time mom so someone help me out here. Can a teether really be worth $20 or $30 or however much it costs? Or is it just "trendy" for your baby to be carrying one around?
I had friends that claimed it was the greatest teether ever, so I ordered one for dd when she was younger. Needless to say she never seemed interested in it and my dh claimed it was an overpriced dog toy. My good friend's one year old takes it everywhere and is always chewing on it so it was worth it to her.
I have this giraffe - but only because it was given to me as a gift from a dear friend who manages a BuyBuyBaby. She says her customers swear by them. While I'm not sure I would have forked out the money for one myself, I do hope it's as good as she says!!

DD "survived" without one. For less that $8 you can get a raz-berry, and they really do just the same thing. (this is just the first link google pulled up, just to give you a picture).
DD wouldn't take a soother or a raz-berry so we had this teether ball with nubby-things sticking out for her to chew on. Same purpose, safe phthalate free material, and again cheaper than sophie.
In my experience it really isn't worth it. My sister and I both have/had one for our little ones, and it's just like any other toy to them. Played with for a second and then tossed aside.

The raz-berry looks like it would be more effective. It has texture on it. That sophie giraffe thing looks like its a good toy for about 5 bucks. 20 is way over priced. Also, I would think the squeaker noise would irritate me.

AND it squeaks? All for the bargain price of $20. I am glad to know I am not crazy for thinking $20 for a plastic toy is a little outrageous!
I have friends that love Sophie. I am going to get the bath one (15.00) from pottery barn kids. it is super cute and made out of the same material and will work the same. I also may get her the teether too (23.00) due to it is super cute and giraffes and animals are my daughters theme. I have a gift card for pottery barn kids so it makes it easier to deal with the price.
If anyone has a coupon for pottery barn kids I would be happy to take it off your hands. pm me thanks ....
don't buy one. chances are you will get one as a gift. Addy never used hers - she did not like teethers. maybe Ava will. But seriously - everyone I know does have one and they all got it as a gift.

I think Sophie is totally ridiculous from a price perspective. Holden had one and never took to it. You'll probably get one as a gift though as they are everywhere so maybe your little one will like it. The razzberry thing everyone else mentioned was great though.
DH had one when he was a baby and wanted to register for it. It has sentimental value to him and MIL. Someone bought already. I've heard from a lot of friends that their LO loved it.

I don't think so!! LO can chew on a frozen washcloth.
Oh no! I bought a Sophie for your LO!!
Y'all will be surprised at the gifts you get at showers. Someone bought me a Bumbo + a $22 pair of booties. One guy spent $75 on a cotton romper and receiving blanket. Someone else got us two $25 burp cloths.
I've heard great things about Sophie, but I'm not getting one because of the safety risk. I read quite a few reviews in which parents said that one of the legs is just long and thin enough to get lodged in their baby's throat and block the airway. It probably wouldn't be a major issue if you monitored your LO the entire time they played with Sophie, but I'm not taking chances!

We can't have squeaky toys. Our dog will go insane until he gets ahold of anything that squeaks. Then he chews out the squeaker, eats the toy and carries the squeaker around until it finally get s a hole in it. Then he is done with it. I think he needs medication sometimes.
DH would shoot me if I spent that much on a teether. The only thing DS would take was an $8 vibrating strawberry, he loved that stupid thing. Every kid is different, but I don't think it is worth the money.
