Pregnant after a Loss

XP: Well I got a beta...but one number tells me nothing, right?

My dermatologist had them check my HCG when I got bloodwork done anyway for my skin. The nurse told me today the level was 3,266...but I can't really tell anything from that, right? I would need to get blood drawn again to see it it doubled?

The nurse said: "That puts you at about 6 weeks." Which I was exactly when the blood was taken. But isn't there a huge range of "normal" for any given week? How would she know from that I was 6 weeks?

Sorry this is probably a useless post. I'm just obsessing now that I have a number.

  • Yeah, one draw won't tell you much more than that you're pregnant. The "normal" beta range is so huge that I would give that nurse the side-eye for trying to date things from it.

I would have loved to get them but my doctor wouldn't order them. My derm just added it to the test since I was already getting blood drawn and told him I was pregnant.

This.  How much longer until your first u/s? Beta is high enough to be able to see something at this point.

First u/s is on Tuesday. I'm dying, even though it's so close, I want answers now! I had a missed miscarriage last time, so I just feel like I have no idea what's going on in there until the u/s.  I am normally patient, but not when it comes to my baby.

I am so excited for you to have your u/s and will send all positive vibes your way that day (other than those I am reserving for myself, as my 2nd u/s is Tuesday).  Smile

Oh really???? For some reason I thought you opted out. I am not sure where I got that from. I'm shocked your doctor didnt want to do them!

  • They always "assume" something from the numbers.  That way they think they know something.

Gin- why would your doctor not do betas? (I realize this question isn't helpful at all to your post but I can't wrap my head around it.) I'd have a really hard time staying with a provider that wasn't flexible and willing to do the testing that would make me feel more safe and secure. Either way I am keeping my fingers crossed for you. Your number sounds good to me, but I'm sure you will get confirmation on Tuesday.
