Can I just not go into labor naturally?

I think something's wrong with my body.  It doesn't get the "memo" when my babies are ready to come.  My first 2 went to 42 weeks with no dilation no nothing.  And I think we're having a repeat according to my last internal yesterday.  I cry every day because I can't keep up with my 2 year old and last week I actually thought I lost him in a museum, coulldn't find him for a good 30 seconds (which btw feels like an eternity).  I can't sleep, I still vomit daily and I'm losing weight again now because I literally have no room for food.  The worst part is my doctor doesn't let me go 1 day over 41 weeks so I know that my last pregnancy will end yet again with an induction.  I just wanted to labor naturally so bad, just to know what it feels like to be somewhat in control of my body you know?  I'm starting to beat myself up over it like wth is wrong with my stupid body.  I'm just really down.  Thanks for listening to my vent :(

  • You've got time. I'm looking forward to reading about your labor. If it comes to it, I know of someone who just didn't show up to her induction. Ask forgiveness later.

But even if it doesn't come on naturally, you get a great prize out of it.

  • I feel the same way. My first was the only one I went into labour naturally. But im still hopeful with this one I will too...GL

  • I really feel for you with this.  I am having my first and it looks like I am going to have to be induced on Monday and I feel kind of betrayed by my body. I'd much prefer to go naturally as well, and I am beginning to feel defective...Everyone else I know who've had babies have all gone naturally (and before their due dates), but me?  Oh no, not me...

  • Don't feel bad.  I had a similar (but different) issue.  At 38 weeks I was dilated to 3.5 cm and 90% effaced.  They said I wouldn't make it to 39 weeks, and I did.  At 39 weeks, I was dilated to 6-7 cm, and while I had had a few bouts of regular contractions, they were not painful, so I thought they were BHs.  I didn't want to be induced, so my O.B. said, "if regular contractions start, I don't care how far apart, call me and come in!"  Within 10 min after leaving the office, they started at 6 min apart...but still NOT PAINFUL.  We went in a couple hours later, still having contractions, but still no pain.  We decided to stay the night and see if anything happened.  I slept through the night, like I had on so many other occasions at home.  Apparently, I am some freak of nature who dilates, but doesn't go into active labor!  They broke my water at 7:45 the next morning, and I had an epidural by 9:00. I FINALLY started feeling the contractions within that time period, and boy, was I glad I had the epidural when I did!  I progressed fairly quickly, and by 11:00 a.m. I was fully dilated, but no urge to push (of course, why WOULD I, with the way everything else had gone!).  They let me "labor down", and by 1:00 p.m., decided to have me push even though the urge never kicked in.  Some say it was because of the epidural.  However, after talking with my mom, she was the same way with not feeling the contractions (up until about 4 cm) and no urge to push, and she never even had an aspirin during her labors!  So apparently, we are freaks of nature...all in all, I would do it the same way in a second.  Our bodies are so unpredictable that I decided not to let myself get hung up on having to have it one certain way.  My birth plan was to go with the flow and let nature take it's course, even if that meant having some interventions.  In the end, what's important is that I am now a mommy, no matter how it got to be that way!
