I'm almost 30 weeks pregnant with my second little girl, and my husband and I are having a hard time naming her. I know that I want a unique name that is also pretty. I love the name Vada, but of course my husband hates it. We had agreed on Elliott (Ellie) which I love, but needed a middle name for, but he recently told me he's not sure about it now. He suggested LeeLyn (a combo of both our middle names), but I'm unsure about it.
Any ideas of how to satisfy both of us?

Vada isn't a name. Neither is LeeLyn. Elliott is a BOY name. Ugh. Sorry, I hate them all.
What about:
Elena
Alanna
Helena
Yvette
Violet
Vivienne
Veronica
Laurel
Layla
Letitia
Lynette
Where is your resource for Vada? It is not listed on www.behindthename.com which is a respected name etymology website.
Baby name sites and books are not reliable sources for name etymology. It's like using Wikipedia as a resource, where anyone can write whatever and it doesn't have to be true and researched.
To each their own but just so you know I would say the majotity of people on THIS board will look at whether or not it is a real name, and most do not like made up names or youneekly spelled names either. FWIW just thought I would share that lil tidbit with you.

Thank you.
I don't make up names, DH made up one and I don't like it. And I'm not too hot on spelling names funny either. But I do like unique names. I don't think I'm alone there.
I associate the name Vada with "My Girl" as well. No she didn't "pull the name out of her ass" as you so eloquently put it but she shouldn't be so quick to jump down someones throat for questioning where she did her reasearch.
OP: LeeLyn is similar to Leland, its a Boys name but if you like Elliot as a girls name you might like that? Just a suggestion.

Sorry, but she was rude about it.
Thanks for the suggestion, I have heard of Leland, but I'm not a huge fan of that either. I think I'm leaning more toward Cecilia or Eden at this point.
Thoughts? (polite, if possible. pregnant hormones don't make it easy to handle rude people.)
Excuse me? How is stating my opinion being rude? It isn't a name. It was some random name made up for a movie.
You can't regulate how people respond to a thread you post on a public message board. Grow up.
Right, because respecting legitimate names and caring about research is so awful. *eye roll*
Please stop the arguing on my post.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but acting like this makes everyone look ridiculous.
Where am I "wrong"? I don't need a pat on the back for anything, I'm an adult. And, as an adult, I care about accuracy. Name your kid whatever the hell you want, just don't expect people not to judge you if you name her some made-up crap you think is "cute".
This is a public message board if you dont want to hear what people have to say plain and simple solution is to NOT post it. There are quite a few ladies on here who really love names and are passionate about it and do the reasearch. No need to have a snarkfest. How old are we ladies?
OP: I like both Cecilia and Eden they are both on my long list.

I really like Elliott for a girl, but personally don't think it goes well with Mia (which I also love). One is clearly feminine and the other is very ambigous
Maybe:
Elle, Eve, Laila, Leila, Lilah, Esme, Liv, Ivy, Fay
I also like Vita as pp suggested
Sorry, but LeeLyn is horrible. Use one or the other or something like Layla
Several of us on this board do prefer 'legit' names - lurk a bit and you'll see that.
Having said that, Cecilia is my favorite of your list. I really dislike the trend of boy-names-for-girls (Elliott) and I don't think LeeLyn works at all.
Yeah. It's atrocious. I love Elliot/Ellie. I think Vada is .... not pretty.
I say, go for Elliot.

Every name was a made up name at some point.....
How about "Lynlee", similar to "Finley"? I'm not a huge fan of obviously made up names except when it has a story behind it. I think the fact the Lynlee is made from the middle names of the parents makes it sweet.
That's a good suggestion. I think Lynlee could grow on me faster than LeeLyn... I do think it has a good meaning we just don't have the greatest middle names to try it with.
Lurker here ...
First off love your DDs name - We just chose Mia Gabrielle for our LO due in August. Big sister is Autumn Breaune (bree ahn) : ).
Yeah, DH's made up name is not too great. ; ) About Vada - my great grandmothers name is Savada, so Vada would be a nickname to that in my eyes. Not a bad name at all though.
I think Cecilia is really cute and flows with Mia pretty well. : )
Not to be that guy, because in general I agree with the point you're making about research and etymology.
BUT....lots of names' etymology is as simple as "well, we know this writer made it up." Cora, Jessica, Miranda, and a host of other Shakespeare names (Cora isn't a Shakespeare name; it was made up for the book, The Last of the Mohicans) are basically just names that somebody made up, lots of other people liked, and time ran its course.
I'm not saying people should name their child after any random fictional character. But I am saying that that's how many names have become legitimate.
My Girl, while by no means a cinematic masterpiece, is a clasic in its own right, and people are familiar with the name Vada because of it. People have been named Vada because of it. And it could be a legitimate name eventually, if it keeps getting used.
You can't discount writers as a etymological sources.
I have a great-aunt Vada. Just throwing that out there.
