I want to host a small party for extended family and friends to meet Lila. She was born during a snowstorm, so my parents and IL's were the only people to visit at the hospital (understandably so) and with the weather, illness and just everyday life no one has really had the chance to meet her (not even my brother and SIL, or close friends). By the time we have family functions coming up, she'll be 3+ months old.
Is it okay to host our own "Come meet our baby!" party, and if so, is it okay to just do cake and drinks and maybe some snacks (very casual/open house style)? Or is this totally tacky? I absolutely do not want anything in return for this party (frankly, we don't need anything)... I simply want to get my family and friends together. I am super worried about it coming across as trying to solicit gifts though.
Re: Party planning help again (for another party)...
We had a "Meet Audrey" party. It was not tacky to us. Both my baby showers were canceled due to my pre-e and hospitalization. She was a preemie and we kept her pretty tight under wraps those first few months. We had a BBQ when she was about 4 months old. Of course, some ppl did bring gifts but it was definitely not expected.
