  • DS is named after his father.

  • My husband picked LO's name.  Since I got to experience everything more than he did, I wanted to give him something to make him feel more included.

  • We both like traditional names, we looked in a baby name book and online at traditional names until we found one we both loved. His MN is DHs name.

  • My first son's absolute favorite song (ever since he was born) is "Hey Jude" by the Beatles.  He's been able to sing almost all the lyrics since he was 2.

I really wanted to name this baby Jude, but we compromised on Julian, since the song was written for Julian Lennon and was originally "Hey Jules".

I like thinking that his big brother played a part in picking his name.

  • DH is Scottish, so we wanted a nice Scottish name.  That's how we came up with Ian.  DH liked Hamish...seriously.  I nixed that quick.

  • Believe it or not, TV!  DH and I both love the show 30 Rock and after I found out I was pregnant we were watching an episode.  There is a character named Avery and I told DH that if we had a girl I would love to name her Avery.  We had a girl and we named her Avery.  Not that we named her after the character, but the show gave us the idea of the name.
  • DH chose our LO's name. After he didnt like any that I came up with, he signed his self up  to come up with something.

  • My DH picked LO's first name cuz he was abs in love with it. They both have the same middle name.

  • Once we found out they were girls, we went through a baby name book narrowed down the choices by eliminating the names we didn't like.  That brought the list of potential names down to just a couple.

We already had Katherine chosen.  DH and I both chose that on independently of each other when we were still in high school.

Our final two for Natalie were Alice or Natalia.  DH made the final choice of Natalie because he didn't think Alice went well with her middle name and he didn't want her to have to spell out her first name for everyone for the rest of her life.

Their middle names (Nancy and Christine, respectively) are our mothers names.

  • DS1 is named after his great-grandmother (Henrietta), who turned 100 the year he was born.  She loved to tell the story that when she was born, her parents were expecting her to be a boy (not sure how they knew that 100 years ago!) and planned to name her Henry.  When she turned out to be a girl, they simply named her Henrietta instead.  It only took 100 years for there to be a Henry in the family!

For DS2, we liked the nickname Ben but weren't huge fans of the name Benjamin, so we came up with Bennett.

  • I was looking at pictures of nurseries (on TB) and someone had their babys name above the crib in cute letters and I thought it was a neat name. I went home and told DH and he liked it too, so we went with it!

  •      I was 5 months pregnant, my then 4 year old son came home from preschool. He told us he went to call for his friend Sierra and Sarah came out of his mouth instead.  He said "that is a perfect name for my baby sister!".  Every name we discussed after that he would say "no, that name is not perfect enough". When I was 9 months pregnant and he was still saying her name had to be Sarah, my husband and I discussed it and decided it was a good name with a great story to tell her when she is older. My son wanted a baby sister for so long, and we are happy to use the name he wanted so badly for he. She is now 3 months old and he loves her very much and is a great big brother.  Her middle name is my middle name and a family middle name on both sides of our family.

  • I really wanted another A name to go with Abbigail (DD#1)  and we were having trouble agreeing/really liking anything.  We were going to nix the same letter theme and go with Lily but DH started to not like it.  I was still trying to think of A names in my head somehow I thought Avalyn, but I thought it sounded stupid, then naturally I had a duh moment, Evelyn!  I mentioned it once and DH said maybe.  On the way to the hospital while I was in labor we still hadn't finalized a name, everyone else thought we were still going with Lily.  When she was finally here, DH didn't want to put her down, the nurse gave her to me to nurse and I refused to give her back until he made a decision.  We decided on Evelyn Jane.

  • We wanted to find a way to connect LO's name to my Dad who passed away 4 years ago.  Boys name was easy, but we had a girl.  We chose Abbigail and used 2 b's to match my Dad's middle name, Abbott.

  • We really loved Juliette and DH grandmothers name Ana for the middle name. But we thought Juliette Ana didn't sound right, so we decided to go with Juliana instead. her middle name is my mother's name (which is a tradition in my family.)

  • I wanted to name him Anthony Ryan, cause that is what my mom was gonna name me if I was a boy but I asked DH if he wanted a junior. So we compromised. He got DH's first name and Ryan for his middle name.

  • Family names. FN Preston is DH's middle name and is a family last name on his side. MN Lila was my maternal grandmother's name.

  • DH named Luke after Luke Skywalker from Star Wars. Yep, we are nerds. I lengthened it to Lucas because I like formal names to yell when he is in trouble. Middle name is the same as grandpa's.

Lol This except exactly the opposite.  I begged him to let me name him Hamish.  Also, Iain means John which is DHs name.

  • As a college coach I come across a TON of names throughout the recruiting season...and certain names have stuck with me, one in particular was Casan.  A girl whom I had recruited in the past and left a great impression on me - although she did not choose to attend our school she kept in touch and the name came attached to a wonderful personality.  When we found out we were having another girl and had exhausted the ONLY female name that we both agreed on (Brae Elizabeth) for our first daughter we came to agree on Casen (different spelling for new opportunities to make it her own)...her middle name Dorothy is after my grandmother - the family matriarch and the woman who raised me - I ADORE HER!

    DD1- Brae Elizabeth

    DD2- Casen Dorothy

  • DS1 - Sawyer Quinn - Sawyer from LOST the t.v. show, Quinn because I liked the name.

DS2 - Rory Keaton - Rory because I like Irish names, Keaton after some Irish person my DH knew/knows

DD - Kinsley Saffron - Kinsley out of a book.  Saffron after the t.v. show on the BBC Absolutely Fabulous...Eddie's daughter was Saffron and they called her Saffy and I loved it.  DH hated it as a first name but settled for it being a middle name.

P.S.  Editors:  I still CAN NOT change or edit my siggy or avatar.  I have emailed you in regards to this matter with no response.  Just wondering why I can't change it.  Thanks

Sawyer Quinn (09/06/06), Rory Keaton (04/07/08) and Kinsley Saffron (10/12/10). Forever and ever my babies they'll be. A rose can say "I love you",orchids can enthrall, but a weed bouquet in a chubby fist, yes, that says it all.~Author Unknown

  • We had a hard time agreeing on girl names, so we had a dry-erase board that we would both write names on periodically ( it was hung in our kitchen)whenever i walked by i would jot down a name i had read, heard, seen, ect & DH would do the same. then we would cross out names if we didnt like the others suggestion. I saw Emmalin in a baby book ( loved E names) and after a couple weeks it had not been crossed off the list, so it stuck! Marie is a my mom's middle name

    * I always said, I want a name i cant find on a cup in the store. SOmething unique

  • My DH knew what he wanted to name a son since high school. It is his middle name, and his grandmother's maiden name. He asked his grandmother for permission to use it just before she died. Since we first started dating, I knew what we would name a boy if we had one. Then for the middle name, we took my DH's name as well. It's like having a 'junior' without all the confusion of exactly the same name.

  • I saw the name Jonah and loved it but DH didn't. He suggested Jonas. It took a couple months but we both finally agreed. His middle name is Charles after my grandpa, dad and brother.

  • I mentioned Mary and DH said sure. All the Mary's that he knew were cute. LOL! He also agreed when I said let's name her after my mom. So Mary Kathryn it is. And no, we're not Catholic.

  • There is a lady on a radio station at night named Delilah, but DH didn't like it so we shortened it to Lilah. When we first found out she was a girl, we had Aubree picked out, but ended up nixing it. Her middle name, Jo, is for my grandma (Joanne) who passed away.

  • My favourite book series growing up was The Babysitters Club- I still maintain that most of the random things I know came from those books. There is a minor character named Laine, so when my husband suggested it (he's a huge Seinfeld fan, and loves when they call Elaine Benes "Lainey"), I was all over it! We decided to use Laine as her name and Lainey as a nickname because our last name is two syllables and ends in a "y" sound, so Lainey -----y sounded strange. We also think Laine ages well.
