Psoriasis/Exczema Treatments

So I suffer from psoriasis. It mainly is on the back of my neck and head. I recently have had an increase though and have a new patch on my eyelid....and below the eye. I have tried "extra" eye cream to keep the area moist. So I am looking for a remedy to fix this little problem. Also...Collin had a runny nose a few weeks back and his nose/upper lip/cheek got all chapped it seemed. Well it has been a couple weeks since the runny nose has gone away and he has dry patches still on his face. I am concerned that he too has exczema or psoriasis so I am looking at a treatment for him too.

Any suggestions for us????

Thanks!

Re: Psoriasis/Exczema Treatments

  • My DH has psoriasis and he has a lot of prescription creams for it...but the one thing that really clears it up for him is natural sunlight.  Its usally pretty bad in the winter, but when spring/summer hits, it's definitely not as bad.

  • Things I've found helpful:

Cod Liver Oil - taken orally, of course consult the dr. first about dosage because there is always a concern about getting too much vitamin A

Triple Paste - it's basically a diaper rash cream but people on several eczema forums highly recommend it

    Aveeno Eczema Therapy

  • Have you tried probiotics? I don't know if it will help the psoriasis, but I know it will help the eczema. I have eczema and so does Eve. At my mom's suggestion, we both started probiotics at the beginning of this past week and it's almost completely cleared for both of us already.

We got them at Elliott's Natural Foods. The employees there were able to help us figure out what was best to take. The gal that helped us out said that lots of skin issues actually relate to digestive issues. If the body can't process something, it pushes it out through the skin and causes irritation. I was skeptical, but have been amazed at how much better both of us are. Hope you and C are feeling better soon.

  • I've tried prescription creams for exczema on the back of my hand, but was never impressed with them and I didn't like some of the harsh ingredients.  The best thing for me has been Oils of Aloha brand kukui cream.  They also make lotion and oil, but the cream is thick and works wonders for me (it also works quickly for me).  I stock up on it each time we go to Hawaii, but you can order it online at Hilo Hattie store and I think the ABC Store.....or maybe you will have to get your DH to take you there to pick some up Wink  Good luck!

  • Obviously this wouldn't work for your son, but for you-I used to work at a tanning salon and we had a couple clients who would come in for about 5minutes sessions avoiding all tanning creams etc. and in the lowest uv beds-The same idea as natural sunlight. Their doctors recommend it-especially for winter, so that might be something to consider.
