  • I don't mind answering this question on here, but I hate when someone in person asks me this. I think it's so rude lol. Yes, this baby was planned and very welcomed. :)

    Ditto.

My dad asked me this question...

  • Kat - it means "I don't fit into the categories you listed in this poll" but I guess it maybe doesn't apply here, LoL.

Codi - I'm the same way.  I am curious though to see how many September mommies have been trying for a long time and finally get to celebrate that BFP!

  • I almost slapped my little sister when she asked me if this was planned or and oops?  yes that was how she worded it!

We knew we wanted to have a family.  Due to my PCP advice we started trying right after the wedding.  Due to some medical issues in my past we figured it would take a while with some medical help.  However we were very surprised, but very excited when we got the BFP on our second month trying. My PCP was very happy as well!

  • Im curious how many moms-to-be have been through hell to get their BFP...

ie: IF treatments, multiple m/c etc...

  • My boss just assumed it was an accident.  It wasn't.  I was really worried how he'd take the news so i'm continuing letting him believe it's an accident!

  • We were somewhere in between intentionally trying and not trying to prevent. We talked on December 15th about how it would be a good idea to start trying for #2. Then I got the eggwhite (TMI) and we didn't try to prevent. And blammo. So we'd been trying for about 4 hours when I got pregnant, and I don't think that really counts as TTC. :)

  • And PS, I don't mind the question, but I'm certain that it's because we haven't struggled.

  • Trytryagain - you certainly have had a long road to pregnancy.  But three times the joy will be fun!  I'm a twin and the bond that I have with my brother is incredible.  Your little ones will be forever friends.  I am so happy for you!

  • Not entirely.  Our first was planned down to a T, but this one was a surprise.  A wonderful surprise!  I was on BC and took it every day, same time of day, no antibiotics.  God apparently has other plans for us right now and we can't wait!

  • We had quite a journey with DS, ended up getting pg with fertility treatments.  But this one came easy, a nice change!

  • We did IVF, you can't plan for a baby much more than that!!!

LNH - I'm a twin too!  Identical tho... She is my absolute best friend, since day 1.  The bond is like no other!  TryTry - you are very blessed.

Gahh... I would give my left leg to have twins! :o)

Me too!  I was secretly hoping we would have twins.  Maybe next time around we will but DH is scared to death of having twin girls which = two weddings LoL.  That said, I am very grateful for our blessing and continue to pray for a H&H baby!

I am one of the above, so I guess this would make my pregnancy planned right?

  • I voted for less than a year, but technically my family didn't know we were trying, only a select few of my friends. My family probably would have wanted me to wait another year, but they were not at all upset by the news and welcomed it with open arms. My family has a history of medical issues and I didn't want to risk that getting in my way so we wanted to start trying and see what happened... only took a month!!

  • I wouldn't necessarily say I've been through hell and back but I did have a loss which was really difficult on me and my husband.

ETA - I don't mind people asking on here.  I talk about a lot of stuff on here (poop, CM, sex, etc etc) that I would necessarily feel comfortable talking to someone IRL about.

  • My DH and I will be married 3 years in June.  He is in the military which makes any kind of planning a rough thing to do.  He's Navy and is on submarines that have somewhat of a schedule, but when we got married he was being transfered to shore duty which meant he would be home for the next 3 years! No sea time!!  We ultimitley decided to start trying when we got back from our honeymoon so he would be able to be around the first couple of years.  That plan did not go quite right .. so here we were .. trying for over two years no luck.  In sept, oct time frame we decided that we would make the jump and get transfered to Hawaii for his sea time.  Now you have to understand we are in a great place -- my family is right down the road .. I actually work for my dad .. and his family is about 5 hours away.  But we decided the move would be good for us because we could have some us time while he was home.  And we had no kids so why not?!  anyway we hadn't offically gotten orders yet to move and BAM .. the baby decided for us ... we weren't meant to move.  I got my BFP a few days after Christmas .. DH's family was leaving the same day.  He immediately called who he needed to and told them we wanted to stay.  Thank goodness he is the rank he is or we would have been in trouble.  I would have loved to move, but not with our first on the way .. I NEED my family and his!!  Needless to say .. it was planned, but not at the same time.  We just feel blessed to finally get this precious gift!

  • I chose special snowflake - while we had been trying for another LO for several months already, in December we were TTA simply because of a trip DH wanted to take in September.  Obviously didn't work quite like planned but we couldn't be happier.

And for the curious PP, while we didn't go through hell and back for this LO, we did to get to DS.  No IF, but multiple losses including a late loss of our identical twin girls.

What a great story and congrats to you! I'm sure it is a huge blessing after trying for 2 years.

I thought for sure we were out the month I got my BFP. I started spotting at 5 DPO (which I now think was the elusive IB) and I was already looking ahead to the next cycle. Needless to say I was shocked and so happy when we didn't have to worry about "next month."

Ditto....I had to tell my boss and her boss....and I barely got the words out of my mouth and my boss had the nerve to say "was this planned?"...I couldn't believe it. In front of her boss, too. UGH. I'm still pissed about it. I stumbled over my words and kinda just made up a response. I was so annoyed.

  • Well let me start this by saying that my dad and my 23 year old sister live with us. and because my dad lives here, my 13 year old brother is here every weekend. So sex is a little uncomfortable in our house...it's a small house (3 bedrooms, but still very small and old and creaky). Since Madeline was born DH and I have had 4 nights home to ourselves and only 2 of them were we awake enough to have sex. We know exactly when this LO was conceived. It was TOTALLY unplanned. We were planning on having another baby this year (or early next year) but we were also planning on waiting another 2 months before TTC again. We had a trip planned for Valentines Day weekend and everything so we could get away and not have to worry about being quiet around my family. It was supposed to be kick-off weekend.

It's crazy because with the one we miscarried we decided to start trying January 2009. From what we read it took most couples a little while to get pregnant so we were expecting to get k/u sometime that summer. We got it on the first try and I got my BFP Feb 2nd 09. Then we miscarried March 30th. started TTC again in June 09 with no success until I finally gave up and my 2010 new years resolution was to not pee on anything at all for the whole year. Obviously I caved but in my defense I was 3 days late for AF when I got my BFP Jan. 17th last year. And then Maddie was born Aug. 29th. And between the time she passed and the time we got our BFP on  Jan. 1st we had sex twice. I peed on the stick because it was a new year and the "no peeing on anything" new years resolution didn't apply. I didn't think I pregnant AT ALL. I drank 2 bottles of champagne the night before and followed up with a pitcher of beer for lunch that day. Picked up the test on my way home from liquid lunch BECAUSE I COULD LOL. and an hour later i was BBMing DH that we needed to start paying off Maddie's hospital bills like NOW.

So definitely unexpected but not totally unplanned.

  • I had a worse experience than someone asking if it was planned.  A woman at church came up to me and said "babies are a blessing from god, even if they are a surprise"...........I was like "it was planned!!!!!"
