How do Braxton Hicks Contractions feel like?

When do you start getting them?  I keep feeling a weird pain on the bottom of my belly button, but it goes away after a few seconds.  Not sure if they are BH!

Thanks!

  • My BH usually make my belly really tighten and feel really hard.

  • They feel like someone's grabbing your uterus and squeezing. At least that's how they feel to me and it's the lower part of my uterus. It also physically gets tight. You can get them as early as 6 or 8 weeks. With my first I don't remember getting them till I was almost due but with this pregnancy I've had some off and on since about 14 weeks.

  • I didn't know I was having them till I asked the doctor. I thought it was just LO stetching.
For me they feel like LO is curling herself into a tight little ball in the center of my belly and trying to push herself out just below my belly button.

Mine don't hurt at all and don't even stop me in my tracks.(I have them a lot when I walking the halls at school(one time I did stop and hold onto the table, not because it was painful, just a very intense, new feeling!))

  • well during my last pregnancy before I really experienced all this stuff I remember thinking that it felt like the baby was slowly rolling around in my stomach... a weird rolling sensation.

Now that I've been there and done that I know that for me it feels like my stomach gets really tight (it's tight to the touch) and it takes my breath away... all of a sudden I just get short of breath because everything's being squished in there and I feel my stomach and it's tight. Then it releases. They're not painful at all and it's also more of an all over sensation rather than just a small area you can pinpoint.

  • that sounds like baby hitting you (elbow, etc).  BH - your entire abdomen gets really really tight and will last for quite a few seconds to a few minutes and then relax.  BH usually are not painful - more uncomfortable.  but there are exceptions to that.

  • For me they feel like my whole uterus is being squeezed, it gets very hard and the pain is like a menstrual cramp. Some are painful, some are not. They last a few seconds and I get a few a day. You can have them as soon as 6 weeks as a PP mentioned but you may not even noticed. You don't want to have to many (every 6 min for two hours) because BH are nothing but contraction that at one point will start working by dilating your cervix. The only difference between BH and real contraction is that the real kind will be regular and will be effective. Walking and dehydration aggravate mine.
  • they are different for each person. mine feel like a cramp and I get a cramp in my back along with them, those are the bad ones. sometimes it is just a tight feeling and goes away, those are not so bad.

I actually called my ob today just to ask and they said if you get one every 10 minutes consistently for an hour then they want you to go in.

mine stopped after drinking some water and having a brownie!!!
