Going on overnight...when should I pump

Hi Ladies.  I have an almost 4 month old who I will be leaving for a full 24 hours.  I was doing well with my freezer stash, until recently when I could only pump from one side because of a cut on the other.  We have now been dipping into our freezer stash for when I work a few hours  a week. I am currently pumping once in the morning and once before bed.  I am getting 4 ounces in the morning if lo hasn't eaten from that side...and about 1 at night.

I have started drinking mothers milk tea and eating rolled oats oatmeal.  What else can I do?  Should I add another session in, but will this take away from babies supply?

Re: Going on overnight...when should I pump

  • When I was building a stash before I went back to work I spent a few days pumping after DS nursed each time (as time permitted).  I always pump both sides even if he has already nursed on that side.  You will actually notice an increase in supply because you will be demanding more milk on a regular basis.  So, when you cut back on these sessions you may get engored a bit.  In any case, I got quite a stash doing this and now that I am back to work I just pump during my work day and all id good.

  • I would recommend pumping after your morning session because that's when your highest supply is. I actually pumped both sides even if my DD already nursed from one side.
