Q about Braxton Hicks contractions

What do they feel like?  I ask because this morning I woke up and my belly was tighter than normal but I wasn't in any pain.  I wasn't sure it was BH contractions or just me being paranoid.

Re: Q about Braxton Hicks contractions

  • It could have been, I've been having them since about week 15 this time around.  For me, it feels almost like a belt tightening around my waist and my stomach gets VERY hard.  They usually pass pretty quickly (maybe 10-15 seconds) and they don't hurt, but they're definitely noticeable.

  • I think I've been having them?  My stomach will get really tight and hard, but only in one spot.  It's like an outline of a big lump, but just in one specific area.  It doesn't hurt, but it's quite uncomfortable.  It usually goes away pretty quickly.

I get the big lump too but for me, at least, I'm pretty sure that's just the baby pressing up tight against the front of my uterus.  I can sometimes feel 2 distinct lumps at the same time - the doc said it's probably his head and butt.

Yeah, I think that's what it might be for me too.  Sometimes the lump will just move from one side to the other.  Last night, it was actually like a half-moon shaped "lump."  So weird, yet awesome!

I've been experiencing the same thing recently. Last night just before going to bed I noticed my belly was MUCH tighter and harder than usual. It was like a rock!! But like you, no pain whatsoever.

  • They start around 6 weeks, so we've all had them but couldn't really feel them until our 2nd trimester.  It's a tightening feeling that can be uncomfortable.  It's important to pay attention to the consistency of them and to understand them as they will become much strong as pregnancy progresses.  Once we reach our date they will be extremely uncomfortable as our bodies are preparing for the delivery.  The difference with real contractions vs BH are the consistency and they loose intensity.

Learn to breathe through them as it will go along way when the show really comes!  It's natures way of getting us prepared.  Enjoy the moments.

  • I believe I've been having them for the past month. It's a tightening feeling in my uterus along with it becoming rock hard. Mine last for awhile though. Usually a good couple of minutes. Walking becomes uncomfortable and breathing deep can hurt at times because it moves my belly too much. It usually happens at least once a day for me. Lucky me. But I also can feel it when LO curls up in one spot because only that area becomes hard. (And it's always on my right side!!)
