LO is nocturnal

so here i am for the fourth night in a row awake at 1am. i swear this kid is nocturnal! she starts kicking at 11pm and goes for about 2 hrs. how are you supposed to sleep? i have a bad feeling this will continue postpartum. (momma's a night owl too) has anyone else experience this?

Re: LO is nocturnal

  • My LO is the same! All the way in the early mornings!

  • I think its normal. When you are active it rocks the baby to sleep. When you are inactive they are bored and become active. Its just preparing you for the years to come!

Edited because it didn't make sense  :-)

I read this too somewhere and thought "oh joy!"

  • My guy is most active when I am at work sitting at a desk for hours at a time. I barely feel him move on my days off when I am active, but it is obvious he is as bored as I am when I am at work because it seems like he is practicing karate while I enter insurance billing.
  • Yup... you're not alone, and as PP's said... it's fairly normal, but not always an indication of how they will be when they are actually HERE. My DS was also more active at night, regardless of my daytime activity. (I was on modified bed rest, so I was at home my entire pregnancy... unless we were out and about on weekends, I was just at home with our dog.) He ended up being a super-easy infant, sleeping through the night by 3-4 weeks.

Mila starts wiggling around as soon as I start eating, when DS "Plays" with her (pretty damned cute... he'll push down on my belly real careful like, and she'll "poke" him back... and all he can say is "oh my! baby sister!"), and when I'm laying in bed for the night and reading on my Kindle. She goes crazy, then. Really constant/consistent movement for almost two hours. =) I don't mind at all. I've learned to sleep through it, for now. I know once she gets bigger, sleeping through it will be harder.

  • I've noticed that the activity is the most around 4 am (waking me up eveyday but I love it!) and when I get home from work around 5pm.  I think he hears DH's voice and gets excited .  He even felt him move for the first time yesturday!
  • My LO is the same way. He was up all night long and then up this morning when I was getting ready for work. Now he's sleeping. Go figure. Lol. I plan on going home after work and taking a nap! Good luck to you.
  • Mine is definitely very active in the evenings and right when I wake up as well.  I think I must sleep through most of it though because he doesn't keep me up or anything.
