Self feeding/finger food help....

My 8.5 month old has no interest in finger food. I have tried puffs, cheerios, mum mums, baked sweet potato "fries", banana's....she just won't have it! I have tried feeding them to her as well and nope....she scrunches her face and locks her mouth shut.

Anyone else experience this, and is it ok? Is there anything else i should do or try? Thank you!!!

  • It's ok just keep offering it. It sounds silly but if she is used to eating off a spoon put a puff on a spoon and feed it to her. This may get her to take the puff and get used to the texture. Then you can encourage her to pick them up.

  • Add in purees and cereal and this is DD. Sometimes she'll put them in her mouth to chew on, then she realizes it's food or has taste and she scrunches up her face. It's to the point where I don't even offer food every day because it's that much of a battle.  Not sure what else we can do other than just keep on offering.

  • When we first start new finger foods I feed her purees first, and then leave some finger foods on the tray to play with while I clean up the kitchen and eat myself.  She plays with it for a few minutes, tries some food, plays with it, tries it, and so on.  Your DD will get there.  Just offer it daily, and don't force it or make a big deal over it if she refuses.

this is what i do as well.   It usually only takes a few times and  LO is hooked on the new food.

  • this also what I do with DD as well. DS will eat anything I give him.

  • Just keep offering, but don't force.  She'll probably come around eventually.  Have you tried stage 3/chunkier purees?
