Trying to Get Pregnant

Visiting Disney World while TTC

Hey ladies!

DH & I are going to Disney in Orlando for a week with my whole family (two nephews & niece included, so excited to see their faces!).  Anyway, we are leaving next Friday, March 4th and are coming back the next Friday, March 11th.  My fertile period starts today and goes through next Friday. So, I will start the 2 week wait as soon as we leave.

I guess my question is - what would be safe for me to do/ride?  I obviously won't want to ride any of the big rides  . . . but I'm afraid if I don't ride or do something my whole family is going to make assumptions that we are pregnant and that's why I'm not riding any rides.  I normally LOVE any type of thrill ride / roller coaster. So they are definitely going to think something is up if I'm not taking it all in. None of them (except my sis-in-law) really know that we are TTC. I think they all assume that we are, but don't know for sure.

I'm just unsure how to handle the whole situation. I would definitely rather just come out and tell them I may be pregnant instead of putting myself and hopefully a baby in danger.   Any ideas on how to go about it without being so blunt?  Or maybe if I just ride some kid stuff with my nephews and niece they won't notice as much??

Re: Visiting Disney World while TTC

  • I'm going to Disney World in May, and if I don't have a BFP, you'd better believe I'm going to be riding all the rides.  Sorry, I've just spent way too many months abstaining from fun during my TWW and I'm not spending hundreds of dollars on a trip to DW just to ride the carousel, haha!  I'm reasonably certain the baby will be fine (if there's even one there to worry about), though of course I do understand why some would be hesitant.  I would say if you're really worried, just don't ride on the ones that specifically warn against riding when pregnant.

I really have no idea how you could stave off suspicion for an entire week of not riding the rides when you usually do.  It's one thing to be slick about it when not drinking at a party one night, but you'd have to be a way better actress than me to pull it off all week!  Hopefully someone else will have some clever ideas.

Either way, have tons of fun!

  • Riding rides at Disney World is perfectly fine.  Technically, you are not pregnant until implantation, which takes at least a week after O.  Even then, I think you are being waaaay cautious.  Have fun and dont worry about it!  Ride its a small world for me, it was being renovated when DH and I were there in Oct.

  • There are so many rides there that aren't even risky, so if you were super worried you could probably avoid just a few "big" ones and be fine.  I agree with PP, though.  I think you'll be A-OK going ahead and riding away.  I mean, the best-case scenario is that a little blastocyst is floating down your tube and into your ute before implantation!
  • You can ride roller-coasters (and any other ride, for that matter) during your 2ww.  There is no danger.  Take a chill pill and enjoy your trip!

  • Go, have fun, and say hi to Mickey for us.  I wouldn't do anything different if I were you.  Implantation most likely wouldn't even take place while you're there since you're going early in the 2WW.  Enjoy!

  • I'll be there the following week!  I'll be riding EVERYTHING and hope you will too!
  • I wanna go to Disney World!!!
  • I think it's perfectly fine. I would ride all of the rides, including the big ones! It won't hurt anything.

I will be going with DHs family in June and i hope i'm KU and not able to ride most of the rids Wink

  • There is no reason for you to skip the rides you want to go on.

  • I'm at Disney world now. :) I'm being visited by AF but if my LP wasn't short this month I would still be in the 2ww and I had planned On riding all the rides anyway. This is a decision you need to make on your on. GL

  • Probably won't be an issue about riding rides.  But a good thing that might also ease your mind, give your Gyno a call.  Just tell them you don't want to do anything wrong, and hopefully they'll give you the green light.  Plus, how can you go and not ride Tower of Terror!?!?!?

    Safe travels! !

  • Don't worry yourself about possibly being pregnant, just enjoy Disney! I did Disney at 5 months pregnant (barely showing) and the main reason I avoided the fast rides/roller coasters was because I had placenta previa and some polyps. Just keep hydrated and have fun!

  • Ride anything you want to ride! Have fun and give Mickey a squeeze!
  • I agree with PPs; go, have fun, and ride the rides. Also hopefully you have good luck in Disney, it has provided good luck for 3 couples that I know who all conceived during their trips to Disney. Apparently there is a lot of magic in the air down there.

  • Girl, you will be perfectly fine in your 2ww at disney world! I am also going in May and I specifically asked my doctor what i could do about rides if i were KU  She just said that a normal pregnant woman wouldnt be at risk to have problems riding rides until around 20 weeks, but that she would recommend not riding after 8 weeks on the crazy rides  She said the main reason for concern is placental abruption which you wouldnt be anywhere near having a placenta at that point  Have fun! I cant wait to go!

  • If you can drink til it's pink then you can ride til it's pink, lol. I just went in January and I ended up ovulating while I was in Disney World.

The first few cycles I spent way too much time worrying about every little thing I did during my 2ww  that I missed out on sooo much fun. Don't stress out about it. Have fun!!!!

  • Ive been going through the same thing.  We have a Disney trip planned as well and have been going back and forth on the whole ride situation.  Good luck on making up your mind.  But have fun and say Hi to Mickey for us!!
