Thanks! I preferred Asher at first, but it was MH's name choice and he wanted Ashur, it has definitely grown on me and now I love it.

I think most of us wear our big girl panties every day, so we can handle a few trolls. Thanks for all the support June Mommas!

  • to mrs prevost:

I found out today that we are expecting a girl and her name is not the most common either we are naming her ripsi  but i like kids that do not have the most common names so if you love it that is all that matters! ;)

  • i was actually laughing my ass off about Ashur's name! (I like the name is unique but not WTH where you thinking) but those ladies need to save the drama for their mama! I always tell ppl that's why i don't talk to girls from hs,

btw: i see that chicks post a lot....she's a witch. i think she tried to turn another board against some mom (who always seems super nice and helpful to me)

  • Haha. I can assure you that 1momma is not a troll. A troll is a worthless human being who does nothing but troll through random chat forums spamming people with hate, garbage and links to naughty sites.

1momma has been here since the dawn of time. OK, maybe not that long, but at least since we were on the Tri boards together.

Also, if you're going to get butt hurt if someone doesn't like your child's name, don't post it on a public message board. You can't please everyone.

This is a test. This is only a test.

  • I am sure I can figure out how to block. I think some people are very rude. Don't give your opinion if someone didn't ask for it. Who cares if you don't like they way someone spells a name. This really annoys me!

  • Personally, I couldn't care less if the "trolls" want to come onto our board.  It's a public board and they have every right to be here even if it is to stir things up.  This board sometimes needs some stirring.  But these posts just perpetuate things.  If you don't like them, ignore them, block them, whatever.  But don't create new posts calling attention to them!  And yes, I realize this post was specifically to tell people to block or ignore them but come on, we're all intelligent women.  Can we not figure that out on our own?

I have to admit, I LOL'd at this.

I didn't read the Ashur trolling post, but I will say I don't really like the name Ashur.  I'm not going to flame you for it, but it's NMS.  But if a stranger on the internet makes fun of your kid's name (this goes for everyone, not just MrsPrevost), chances are, someone in real life will as well.  Kids can be cruel.  You can click "ignore" and make the troll go away, but your kid will have to deal with it in real life.

  • I agree with Gym.  Just ignore posts.  We are all big girls and it is a public board. Who cares if someone is so lame and bored with their life that they have to troll on the bump.com.

Hate to say it, but if you are on a public forum and posting, you ARE asking for everyone's opinion, and they all have a right to it.

If you had read the post you would have seen that I didn't get offended, or aufended for that matter. I don't care what other  people think about my name choice. I don't like a lot of your name choices either, but its not my kid. I answered the initial question (more like a flame, but no biggie) as to my choice and when the comments kept coming I asked that the post be returned to its initial subject.

For what its worth any kid will be made fun of at some point. I have a very common name and kids found a way to tease me for it, just like they did with all the other kids, unusual name or not.

  • Ok. Now that I've seen what you guys are talking about (thank you for the link, 1momma)...

You know, when you always say whatever you like, you are bound to eventually hear back something you won't like.

You should always study what you write and see if it is really the kind of thing that you would say if you were face to face with that person. Maybe you'd think it, but would you say it? But then again many people are equipped with "virtual cojones" and what they want is precisely a chance to disrespect someone while hiding behind the anonymity of a virtual interface. And to me that is trolling, nevermind how long you've been around. After all, it is bashing away, isn't it? And completely off-topic to boot. One may not be a troll always, but still engage in troll-like behaviour. In my opinion.

And yes, people are entitled to post their opinions however obnoxious they may be. It is a public forum. Free speech. But I don't get why one would choose to abuse that right and be so deliberately rude for no reason at all, unless that's always been your intention in the first place.

I do like forums with a "rainbows and puppies" atmosphere. So shoot me. That's why I joined in the first place. Because it seemed like people here were helpful and nice and sympathetic. And that is still true most of the time.

bcspagirl, I get that you were going for the "unite" kind of thing but I think that, instead of blocking, if you are that bothered it would be more effective to complain to the board moderator and the administrators (community@thebump.com). If enough of us complain, the trolls may have their priviledges suspended or even their accounts closed. That is, if they really are trolls and that wasn't an isolated event.

Troll away, flame away. And to the nice ladies, a very nice day...  =)

Sorry. English is not my first language (I am brazilian). I self-taught, and I guess it makes it harder to get those nuances. But thanks for the lesson.

And... maybe nothing will happen (although what went on that particular thread was the very definition of trolling, you guys may indeed not usuallly be like that), but that doesn't mean I should refrain from reporting (again, thank you so much) it if I feel that it is behaviour worth reporting.

  • FWIW, I would ask Ashur's mom if she really wanted to spell her baby's name that way to her face, because it's going to be torturous for him as a child.  When I was choosing baby names, I thought like a playground bully & thought about the possibilities.

IF you don't want people commenting on your baby name, don't put  it in your siggy.

  • "In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

I get it that maybe you didn't intend to bully her, or even to troll. The only reason I got involved is because I actually thought you did. But if that isn't the case, if you were just genuinely concerned for the child's well-being, why didn't you just apologise when you saw you that had upset your fellow bumpie? If that was not your intention...

It's probably easy for you to think like a bully, seeing as you act like one!

Wow. That was really sad. What are you gonna say next - I'm rubber you're glue?

Well I found Wikipedia's definition spot on (as well as the rest of the article). Do you have a better definition? I would love to see it... please provide a link in your next answer (I'm sure there'll be one, since you're a last word freak).
