anyone use cloth wipes?

We CD full time and I am thinking about trying cloth wipes.   What do I need to get started.  I know I need the cloth wipes but what else?  What do you keep the wipes in?  Are they sitting in "solution"? What is the "cleaning solution"?

We have found out the hard way that you should never, ever flush disposable wipes.  They clog pipes way too easy!

Thanks!

  • We do... kind of.  I just use those thin baby washcloths with water.  Nothing fancy.  Just fold a bunch in half and stack them up in a regular disposable baby wipe holder and dump some water on them :)

  • The cheap answer is to get a small container (or a wipe warmer), just put plain water in it, and maybe a few drops of mineral oil if dryness is a skin issue.  Put in 3-4 wipes at a time.  Cheap washcloths work very well.  No need to buy anything expensive.  Just get a 16 pack of dark colored washcloths from WalMart.  The warmer idea is good since you let the cloths sit wet until used.  The container method=very cold wipes.  Whatever you are used to using, really.  Change the water every 2-3 days. Throw in the wet bag/diaper pail with diapers.  Easy easy!

This is exactly what we do. I just bought the thin cheap washclothes that come rolled up in packages of like 12 and use a spray bottle to get it wet. Glad I am not the only one. I know there are fancy solutions you can make if you want to google.

  • We also use thin washcloths, and I thought I was just being cheap about it.  They work just fine, and they wash up pretty well, too.  It's really easy.

  • We did the thin washcloths and were also gifted with a set of the imse vimse wipes. The washcloths were fine, but I LOVED the wipes. They had a very different texture.

Instead of leaving them to sit in a container of water, I kept a spray bottle on the changing table and just wet each wipe as I went.

This is what we do, too. We own about 36 baby washcloths (I like Meijer's cheap brand the best-- they wash up well) and just fold them in half and keep them moist with water when we are using them. When Leah was in diapers, I just washed them with her cloth dipes, so I didn't put oil or anything on them. We had some for diaper use and some for food/around the house use. I wash them every week.

  • We use disposable washcloths that we stack in a wipe warmer wetted down with water.  We did this because DS2 is awful with wipes, they really do not agree with him and we use to run to the bathroom wet down wipes and then change diapers but this way we always have some at hand and they are warm which was very handy when we had Serena and tackling the first tar poos!

  • I made a bunch of cloth wipes by buying fabric and sewing into squares.  I used flannel.  We kept a spray bottle and sprayed the wipe before using.  HTH!
