Hi ladies! I am delivering at RO Beaumont and I was just wondering what kinds of goodies they have for mom & baby. I have coupons for kits from Enfamil and Similac so I was wondering which one i will be able to get.
any other info/stories about ROB would be helpful. TIA!
Re: RO Beaumont
I didn't get any goodies at the hospital, i got the kit from my doctors office with a bag and samples, don't remember which it was though.
I also got a bag with a beaumont swaddle and a gift cert for a massage but I guess that's not common, not sure why i got it.
Overall I was happy with the experience, the delivery nurse was great, nurses while we were there were hit and miss, some where great, some not so much. Make sure you ask for a Lactation consultant to talk to you, i was struggling and getting bad advice from nurses until then.
Overall I was happy also. I was there longer than I hoped because of Csection and I was uncomfortable but the nurses helped the best they could. I also got a swaddle for baby, but I think they just had extra, not sure if everyone gets one.
I was told the last day that any supplies for baby are ok take (Formula & diapers), wish I had known that earlier I would have stocked up
Mommy's little helper
Overall, my experience was a good one. I had one labor/delivery nurse that was not so great but the rest were really caring and helpful. I also received the swaddle sleeper. I didn't get any formula but you can take the diapers, onesies, and other supplies they have for the baby.
Oh yeah, i took all the supplies and more
I asked for formula and they gave me a bunch of bottles for the first few days. I would bring a few sleepers with you, LO had low temp and they only give you a shirt, no pants no sleeper so they wanted us to use our own
I had a great experience with both my kids there. I spents 10 weeks on bedrest there with my daughter too. There was one crabby postpartum nurse, but it wasn't enough to ruin my experience.
They don't give formula gift bags anymore. They want to encourage breastfeeding so they feel a free diaper bag full of formula is against that. They gave us a newborn size sleepsack/swaddle when I had DS last year. When I had DD there 2 years ago they gave us a Beaumont Baby onesie. They put it on her in the NICU and she had a massive blowout in it. Raid any supplies in your room though, those are fair game.
I just wanted to add that the "raiding your supplies" rule is like something you should do daily.
It is included in your "room costs" anyways. Keep taking and they will keep refilling.
Don't wait till your last day
I AGREE!! Every day I would keep putting the diapers in my diaper bag and telling the nurse we needed more, my H was so annoyed.. I had a c-section and was there for 4 days. I have nothing but good things to say about the nurses, they were all wonderful to me. If you plan on nursing ask to see the lactation nurse/consultant she was wonderful and really helped me out when we were having latching problems!
I had a pretty good experience at RO Beaumont. There were a few things that I wish someone had told me. First of all, you will be constantly interrupted in your room after the baby is born. Rounds start at 6am and you will be woken up and introduced to the resident. Just as you fall back asleep, the doctor will come in to introduce himself. Incidentally, you will never see either of them again. Fall back asleep, and there is a shift change and the new nurse needs an introduction. Then you will be interrupted for paperwork, photographs, parenting program. It felt like I had a revolving door in my room.
My second complaint was that I was not made to feel comfortable about sending DS to the nursery at night. I am not sure if it was just my nurse, but she was reluctant to take him out of my room. They really encourage rooming in, but I had several friends tell me to send DS to the nursery at night. You will appreciate it because your day starts at 6am with the first introduction. I am so glad I did it, but the nurse didn't seem happy about it.
Make sure you speak with a lactation consultant if you choose to breastfeed. Also, make yourself knowledgeable about BF before you go. While I was there, I was given different information from the nurse, pediatrician, and lactation consultant. I left the hospital with conflicting information and was thoroughly confused. It led to many frustrations and tears because I wanted to do everything "right". The other thing I think you need to know is that BF is not all or nothing. You can BF and give formula. I wish I knew that sooner because it would have saved me a lot of heartache.
Finally, Beaumont has a wonderful parenting program. There are parenting groups and I highly recommend joining one. My group met during the day, every other week at a different mom's house. There are other groups that meet in the evenings, and there are groups that include dads. In my group, there are about 8 new moms and the babies were all born within a 2 month span of each other. Each meeting starts with a presentation about an aspect of parenting for the first hour, the second hour is spent socializing. It starts at about 4 months and continues until 10 months. We have had mom's night out and a family day with the dads and kids. My group technically just ended, but we have chosen to continue on our own.
Oh, one more thing, I found the childbirth class to be helpful. I read a lot, so I knew most of the information, but DH was clueless. If your DH is anything like mine, blissfully unaware, I would highly suggest taking the class.
