My daughter is 9 days old and I have just been able to get her to latch on using the shields. before that I was pumping and feeding her the bottle. I am having wayyy too much milk ad I am going thru terrible Engorgement. I really want to stop breastfeeding but do not know the best way. Did any of you stop cold turkey or is there an easier way to do it without being in even more pain..
And how long does this engorgment supposed to last?? Any suggestions would be helpful.
Re: Breastfeeding HELP!!
do you want to stop because of engorgement? your supply does balance out and it stops being painful. and if you have an oversupply, you might want to consider starting up a freezer stash, so that if you did stop bf'ing, your dd could still have bm for a while.
i'm still bf'ing so i have no advice on stopping.
if you want to quit, that;s totally fine. i can't help with the weaning bc we still BF but....
if it's only because of the engorgment, hang in there. your milk production will even out to what your baby needs. it takes a few weeks.
I highly suggest that you contact a LC ASAP. ?It was one of the best things that I did in the first couple of weeks. ?Try to find an independent one that will come to your house- they are usually better than the ones at the hospital.
GL?
I just went through this same problem. I had to pump at first because DS was in the NICU, and then had major oversupply issues once I started trying to nurse. For me it worked itself out in about two days. The main thing was to not pump anymore (or if you absolutely need to relieve pressure, just pump for like 30 seconds), and to feed him on one side only for each feeding. This will help you empty the breast so your DC gets the foremilk and hindmilk (when I wasn't doing this I noticed my DS seemed unsatisfied and fussy), but still keeps the other one full so your body gets the signal to stop milk production.

Good luck!
