heartbeat at 6w2d u/s?

I have my second u/s tomorrow to look for a heartbeat, but we'll only be 6w2d.  I'm hopeful that we'll see that flicker, but it seems a little early to me and I'm nervous we're going to spend some time in limbo, with a heartbeat showing up later.  Did any of you have a u/s on or around 6w2d?  Did you see the ever-coveted heartbeat?  Thanks!

(By the way, I'm so sorry I haven't been around lately to cheer you guys on.  My internet has been down on and off for days (and I've been insanely busy anyway) so I haven't been able to check on anyone.  I hope there's lots of happy news around here and some new faces too!)

Re: heartbeat at 6w2d u/s?

  • I had my first u/s at 6w0d and the hb was 111.  I had the 2nd u/s at 7w1d and it was 140.  There is definitely a chance you might see one.  I hope you are able to get on tomorrow and let us know how it goes.  GL!!

  • We saw the h/b at 6w2d but we were warned that we may not since it was early.  Good luck at your u/s!

  • how exciting! I had mine at 6w1d and we saw a hb!  But I was prepared not to, that's for sure!
Married on 3.20.2004. It took 30 month, 2 failed adoptions and IVF for our first miracle. We have had 9 foster kids since he was born and started the domestic adoption process when he was 10 month old, we had 4 failed matches in that time. After our daughter was born we brought her home and spent 2 weeks fearing we might lose her because of complications that came up. But Praise God all went through and she is ours forever! • We had our first u/s at 6w3d and we saw a flicker for a second and then it was gone, then we saw it again but then gone again. Our Dr said it was normal since we were so early. I was told we had a 20% chance on seeing it that day. GL tomorrow! I know my Dr told me I could wait a few days and come in at 6w6d just to be sure we would see it, maybe that is an option.
  • I just wanted to say gl and hope you see it! I have my first h/b u/s tomorrow morning at 7wk2d....I wanted to wait until we would definitely see it and am so nervous there will be nothing!

    GL!

  • Mine was at 6w4d and we saw and heard hb's. Baby A was 121 & baby b was 126.

    GL!!!

  • We had a u/s at 6w3d, and we were able to see the hb.  They warned us before it, though, that it could very well be too early.  GOOD LUCK!!!

  • Our first u/s was at 6w6d, and we were only able to see one heartbeat on the monitor.  We were so nervous, but our RE didn't seem to be.  Two weeks later, we had two!

  • I had my first ultrasound at 5 weeks 5 days and we saw the little flicker of a heartbeat. It was not measurable at that point, it had just started beating. You may not see it so don't panic but I really hope you do!!

  • How exciting - good luck and let us know how it goes. We had ours last week at 6w3d and we did see and hear the heartbeat but were told we may not.
  • DD's first u/s was at 6w,2d. Her heartbeat was 112 (but my RE really didn't like measuring the h/b he just liked eye-balling it. I made him count to appease my nervous state).
  • You have a good chance but it's NOT for sure so don't get upset if his/her little ticker isn't ticking yet.  My bean's was - it was 120 at 6w2d but again, I had been cautioned by the nurses that I might not see it yet at that point.  Early pregnancy is fits and starts and different for different little embies for a while - I'd say after 7w it gets more "predictable" in terms of what you'll see, but not before.
    Wheee!

  • These posts give me hope!  Our first u/s isn't 'til November 10th, I'll be 6w6d and I was afraid we wouldn't have much hope to see the heart beat!

    Thanks for sharing everyone!

  • I had my first ultrasound last week at 6w1d and we were able to see and hear the heartbeat.Good luck tomorrow!
  • With DS my first u/s was at 6w0d and we saw the h/b and this time I went a couple weeks ago at 6w1d and we saw both heartbeats.
  • Good Luck!  Saw h/b at 6w1d and I think you will too!
  • I had an u/s at 6w1d, and we saw two heartbeats :)  But I see a lot of girls on the board who don't see the heartbeat until into the 7th week.  Good luck!
  • I saw and heard a HB of 116 at exactly 6 weeks. My doctor said it would be a 50/50 chance of even seeing it...so honestly try not to freak out if you dont see anything. GL to you!

  • At 5w6d I had my first u/s and we saw the gestational sac in my uterus, the fetal pole and yolk sack, as well as a slow heartbeat (it probably had just started beating).

I don't know how much of a difference it makes but my beta was over 10,000 at that point (I think the doctor said the higher it is the more they are likely to see or something).

I would say you've got a good chance of seeing the h/b but if you don't it is definitely nothing to worry about since the heart starts to beat any time during the fifth week or the sixth week.

Best of luck for an incredible 1st u/s!!!!!

  • I had an u/s at 6w0d and saw only the fetal pole. Then I had an u/s on 6w3d and the heart was beating 103 beats a minute.
