If you purchased the Hemnes dresser...

Re: If you purchased the Hemnes dresser...

  • DH and I both have the MALM.  I have the taller one that is 8 drawers and he has the long one that is 6 drawers.  I love both.  And they are a little cheaper than the Hemnes.

  • We're looking into the 3 drawer IKEA Hemnes and making it into a changing table.  I guess it just depends on how much storage you need.

  • I purchased the 8 drawer version for our bedroom set a few years ago and it's fantastic.  Great sized drawers, smooth pull, and looks way more like real furniture than some other Ikea stuff.

It is very heavy however....make sure DH has someone else to help him with the box at the store and getting it into the house.

  • We are definitely getting the 3 drawer and using it as a changing table as well. From what we've seen, it should fit all the baby's clothing, diapers, etc for a long time.

Plus, we are planning on having more kids, so by the time the first one outgrows it, we can use it for the next :)

Now to try to find the ever elusive IKEA coupons....

  • We bought the 3-drawer dresser. We originally thought we would get the one with 8 drawers, but we realized it would be too big for our baby's room when we went to Ikea to see them in person. The drawers are very roomy though and we bought 2 packs of these great drawer organizers that we found at Ikea as well.

  • We got the 8-drawer.  We'll be using it as a changer too and I wanted to have room next to the changing pad to put diaper supplies.  We actually bought an 8-drawer for our bedroom as well and it's great.  Drawers are nice and smooth, lots of storage.  I say if you have the room for it and need the storage, the 8-drawer is the way to go!

  • If you have the space, I'd go with the 8 drawer. We don't plan on using the closet in the baby's room because we need it for storage, so the dresser and under the crib will  be the only places we can keep his stuff. Also, I really like the 4 smaller drawers that the 8 drawer dresser has, I think they will be helpful in corralling smaller baby-sized items.

  • Thanks ladies. We definitely have the room for the 8 drawer, but we have plenty of closet space in the nursery as well. Not only does she have a huge double closet, there is also an additional separate closet in the room as well. I was also considering buying two of the three drawer chests... decisions decisions.
  • I have the 8 drawer and it is GREAT. However, it is tall. If you are short (like me at 5'4) it is NOT comfortable to change a baby on. I will probably be changing my baby on the floor b/c it is just not super comfortable to change a baby's diaper at such an elevated height (for me at least).

I'm also 5'4" and we went with the Birkeland instead of the Hemnes because the Birkeland was a little shorter and felt like it would be more comfortable to use as a change table. That 2" difference really makes a difference!

Regarding the 3 drawer vs. 8 drawer, we went with the 3 drawer which seems like it would comfortably fit the change pad, but we'll have to put the changing supplies (wipes, ointments, etc .. we have a diaper stacker) in the drawer instead of on top of it. We had to go with the 3 drawer because the baby's room doesn't have enough space for the larger one. But if you have the space go for the 8 drawer!

  • I bought the 3 drawer and it has plenty of room for a changing pad on top. I really wanted the 8 drawer (I love the 4 little drawers on top!) but decided it was going to just take up more room than I wanted. They are both nice though!

  • We went with the 8 drawer because closet space is very limited in our 1950s home.
