June 2011 Moms

have a question

I just got back from my doctors appointment he is measuing at 27 weeks, I am 26 weeks and 1 day (he was measuing a week ahead at my anatomy scan too so it is nice to know he is growing good).  She also found he was in breech but that they do not worry about that until 32-34 weeks.  I am a little worried because both me and my sister were in breech (I was footling breech and 10lbs) and my mom had to have c-sections for both of us.  Has anybody else had this happen to them?  And do you have any advice?  Thank you

Re: have a question

  • I don't have any advice but my baby was breech at our anatomy scan and my doctor said not to worry because they usually flip closer to the due date. I wouldn't worry about it too much right now as a lot can change between now and June

  • Dont worry about it now.  The baby still have plenty of time to flip around.

  • My DD was frank breech and she never turned. Ended up finding out after the c-section that the cord was wrapped around her neck a few times too. So I'm glad she didn't try to turn. My DS is now breech and was posterior at my anatomy scan. They again gave me the "he still has time" speech, but I have a weird feeling he's going to end up like his sister and I'll be forced another c-section. I know many people that have had their babies turn right before they had them though so I wouldn't worry. Good luck and I hope it turns out for you! Smile

  • My daughter was breech and never turned.  We even tried to have her turned but she wouldn't move, I had to have a c-section with her.  My Dr. wouldn't try turning her till I was at least 36 weeks.  There are some complications that could happen so they want you closer to your due date and there is always a chance they could turn back to breech if they were able to turn the baby.

You still have time for him to turn so don't worry to much yet.  Due your research on things you can try at home to see if he will turn.  There is a great website called spinbaby.com you can look at for some tips as well.

I asked my doctor at my appointment today and she said that baby has quite a bit of room to easily change positions up until week 34. I was really surprised that it's that late but she insisted.

  • Definitely plenty of time, my midwives said baby is probably flipping back and forth right now. But, if not, my friend had a successful external version (where they manually try to turn the baby from the outside) at 37 weeks with her last baby, and she was able to have a great vaginal birth.
