Anyone use a maya wrap?

I am a first time mom-and first time poster on this board. DS is 3 months old today. I currently have the moby wrap and the Infantino Flip carrier. I loved the moby wrap for the first month, but DS hates feeling so confined, not to mention it makes him too warm. I'm not crazy about the structured feeling of the Infantino wrap. What I'm looking for is something I can wear in mutiple positions-especially on the hip. It needs to be quick and easy to use and not too hot. The Maya Wrap looks like it might be just what I'm looking for but I'd like some feedback before I order it. My biggest concern is that the weight limit is 35lbs, DS is already 15lbs (has more than doubled his birth weight, plus some). I'm just concerned this wrap may not last long enough to make the purchase worth it.

If you haven't used this wrap but have a wrap you love, please recommend it! TIA!

  • The maya wrap is actually a ring sling (confusing name, right!).  I've not used one personally but have a friend who loved her's for the first 6 months or so - after that, she found it not as supportive.

I would probably suggest a different brand of ring sling instead that will be comfortable for longer since you are already at 3 months.  Linen makes a great summer sling.  If you want something more budget try www.sleepingbaby.net.  Sakura Bloom slings are also a nice choice.

  • I am usually a lurker here, but...I have a Maya Wrap Ring Sling. I have gotten tons of use out of it. I now use it mostly for quick hip carries. It gets uncomfortable because the weight is only on one shoulder. But for short times that J. wants to be carried around the house or for quick errands (like running into the post office), it's perfect. FWIW, J. is 6 1/2 months and about 19 lbs.

Within the last week or two, I have started to rely more and more on my mei tai.

  • i have a maya, it's ok. i'm not really a ring sling fan, i prefer wraps. nonetheless, i like keeping my maya around because it's an easy in and out with LO.

i would recommend that if you get one, look around for a used one, like on the baby wearer's for sale or trade forum. i think new they go for $60+, but i got mine for $20.

  • I'm definitely a wrap momma rather than a ring sling momma.  In the world of ring slings I prefer the SBP shoulder over the Maya Wrap shoulder.  Also, you can choose from cooler fabrics with SBP.  I have tencel, but linen is also an option.

Finally, I've found myself going back to the ring sling  (in addition to wrapping) the past couple weeks 'cause of the up/down nature of toddler wearing.  She's 22 pounds so I still wrap for longer periods of carrying.

Good luck finding something you like.
