February 2011 Moms

Birth story...3 weeks later

Hey ladies. Sorry it's been so long since I've posted. Adjusting with a newborn is a lot more exhausting than I thought! Anyway, I'll keep the story pretty short.

I woke up on Thursday, February 3, at 4am for my usual run to the bathroom. When I was done, a glob of blood fell out. I thought maybe I would go into labor within the next 24 to 48 hours so I went back to bed. However, I had homework due that day so all I could think about was getting it done in case I went into labor (dork, I know). So at 4:15am I got up to finish it. Just as I left the bedroom, my water broke! I woke up DH, called the doctor, got ready and went to the hospital.

We got there around 6am. My labor wasn't progressing so they wanted to start pitocin. I waited it out as long as I could (and until I finished my h/w). I let them administer it around 11:00am. By 11:15, I was in horrible back labor. The contractions were less than one minute apart. I ended up getting an epidural. I didn't really want to, but it was best for me at the time. Finally, around 7:30pm I was ready to push. I surprisingly felt all the pressure, which was great because I could feel the labor, but it wasn't painful. Then at 8:05pm, Arlington "Arlie" Oscar was born. He was 8lbs 2oz, 20 1/2 inches long and the cutest thing I've ever seen. We were team green so it was an extra amazing moment when we found out he was a boy!

I'm more in love with him than I ever thought possible. Adjusting to being a mom is difficult, but so worth it. He is three weeks old today, and time is already going too fast!
