Help with birthday invite

Because I have no photoshop skills, I'm ordering a digital image of a personalized birthday invite on Etsy for about $12 and am trying to find the most affordable way to print it.

I wouldn't mind doing a postcard -- at Costco, these are $.64/each plus a $.28 stamp = $.92/each

I could also do a flat 4x6 or 5x7 photo. Those would be cheaper to print -- $.13 or $.39 at Costco -- but then I have to add a $.44 stamp and the price of envelopes. I'm not sure where to even get the envelopes or how expensive they might be.

Any suggestions? I'm probably going to need at least 50 of these. TIA!

  • How large is your image?  When we did our birth announcements, I designed them in photoshop and just went with the Costco Photo Greeting card.  It's 6" x 7-1/2" and $14.99 for 50 (only $0.30 each, including envelopes--only requires one $0.44 stamp) and only $5.49 for additional sets of 25.  I thought it was the best value and required the least effort on my part.  I did it online and it was ready for pick-up by the next day.

I found it kind of difficult to find envelopes locally that fit the 4x6 photos size (size A6, 4-3/4" X 6-1/2") when we did our wedding thank you photo collage, but that was 4 years ago. You could try looking at Office Max, Office Depot, Fisher, but not sure of the quality or price you'd find.  Maybe even at scrapbooking stores (I frequent Creations Unlimited, but they're in Wahiawa).  You should be able to find envelopes that will fit the 5x7 pretty easily (I know for a fact they sell them at Creations), but the Costco photo greeting card ends up being cheaper anyway.

Do you have a link to the Etsy image you were going to buy?  I'm no PS guru, but if it's simple enough, I might be able to whip up something similar.  Smile

  • Is Vistaprint any cheaper? I printed the boys' birth announcements on the large postcards from them and was very happy with how they turned out.

I want to see the design you have your eye on too!

  • I was going for a circus theme, and I liked these images with different wording:

The Costco greeting cards a great value -- my only issue was the size mismatch, since the Etsy sellers offer either 5x7 or 4x6.

My sister did her wedding invites on Vistaprint and those came out great. I hadn't compared their prices yet, since they have about a jillion coupon offers to sort through first!

Nicole, that'd be awesome if you had time to make one for me. I'm really not picky, I just have no talent myself to even venture a try!

    This one, hands down!

Nicole, if you're going to give recreating these a try, dafont has a nice circus font available...I wish I could remember the name! I'll have to try to find it later. Smile

LOL...yeah, I already had it...and it's called "Circus".  Stick out tongue

Warning, though, my recreation would pale in comparison to some of the designs Lisa has created!!!

  • I did the same for Ashton's invites (ordred off Etsy) and I had them printed (2 per page) at a local printer by my office (Print Out) and I think it was only .50 on card stock paper.  Then I purchase white envelopes that fit perfect for my 5x7 invite and I think I paid $10 for 50.  HTH. I loved the way ours turn out.

LOL of course I can't remember the world's most obvious font name lol!

And thanks Embarrassed but I'm sure it will look awesome!

  • Do u have a scanner and photo printer? What I did for our Christmas cards this past yr was get a customized photo flat card printed (I had a coupon for 3 free cards so I did 3 designs to show MH and we picked our favorite from there). Then I just scanned it in at very high resolution and printed them on 4x6 photo paper (which looked really good since the scanning resolution was high)--if you don't have photo paper, they range anywhere from around $4.99-$10 for a pack of 100 on Amazon. I got a set of 50 ivory blank cards and envelopes on sale from Michael's for $3.33 (didn't need the cards but the set was the cheapest deal for envelopes that I could find--it's prob not on sale anymore but with one of those 40% off coupons it would be around $6 because it was originally ~$10). So I just used the envelopes to mail them out at $0.44 a pop.

The next closest I got to finding cheap envelopes was at Walmart for 4x6 cards and I don't remember the exact price cuz I didn't end up buying it but it was around $6-8 for a pack of 50, I believe. Unfortunately, I've never did any mass printing service before (cuz I just do it all myself) so I have no advice on what's cheap for printing but you can maybe try Michael's or Walmart (I dunno if there's Michael's in HI) if u just need envelopes.

  • I don't have a color printer, so I can't go the DIY route. :(

But I did find A6 and A7 envelopes -- the ones for 4x6 and 5x7 photos -- for a good price on Amazon. In packs of 100, they came out to 10-11 cents a piece. So I could still go the route of printing normal sized photos.

Nicole is making my invite and it's already looking awesome!!!
