REALLY attached to binky all the sudden?

Up until recently, Eliza could not have cared less about her binky. We would use it occasionally at night to soothe her back to sleep, but it stayed up in her room and she never looked for it. For the past few weeks, she is obsessed with it. She wants it all the time. It is strange to me that after 14mo, now she has formed an attachment to it. She is cutting her 3rd molar so maybe that has something to do with it? I have no clue, really!

Re: REALLY attached to binky all the sudden?

  • Once Toodle got old enough to understand and seek them out he grew a lot more attached too (don't remember exact age but may have been around then). A couple months ago he started requesting it randomly (he just says "mine" but we know that's what he means). But lately he rejects it sometimes, so hoping that is sign of improvement. Good luck!

  • Caroline turned into a paci addict after months of only using it in the car and in her crib.

I know that it will probably make weaning from it more difficult down the road...but to be honest with you, I'm too tired to care right now. It makes her happy, and therefore this exhausted Mama happy.

  • I don't mind at all. Honestly, this kiddo has a rough road the next few months so whatever makes her feel better and comforted is fine with me. 100000%!

  • Same experience at around the same age, maybe a touch older. Once he could name it, it became an obsession. We will never be able to wean. He will be in college with a paci, I feel pretty sure :)
  • Ava does this, too, but right around her 2nd birthday.  It was strange -- she had been using it only at night, naps, and in the car for months, and the twins were 6 months old, so it wasn't exactly new.  Since we were trying to wean her from it anyway, the obsession with it (and subsequent tantrums when it was taken away) were the push we needed to get rid of it altogether (NOT suggesting you do this -- Ava was obviously much older).  She actually gave it up surprisingly easily -- some tears the first time she realized it was gone, and that was it.
