I think its really interesting that so many people in my other post asked why my midwife is "letting" me go "so far past" my due date. Research shows that after 42 weeks is when the placenta is going to be under stress and have potential for breaking down. My office won't even CONSIDER induction until 40w5d. They asked me Monday to pick any day this week for an induction and I asked what the last possible day was that they would let me do it. They said next Monday, so that is what I chose.

I don't necessarily think that LO is going to come on his own at this point, but I want to know that I gave him every opportunity to come on his own terms. I am aiming for the most natural birth possible and am anti-epi, even with the strong possibility of pitocin at this point. I am not miserable... I could definitely be more comfortable and am totally ready to be able to bend and of course super excited to meet my LO; BUT I am overall doing ok. I am actually surprised at how many people pick early inductions, or even that doctor's offices are ok with that.

Thank you for posting this. If I get induced it will not even be discussed until I hit 41 weeks. My OB believes in careful monitoring and doing exactly what you described - giving LO every opportunity to come on her own.

Now if only I could get my family/friends to process this.

Its SO funny to me that my phone calls, texts and FB messages changed from "he will come when he is ready, just be patient," to "omg, why aren't you being induced yet?!" in a day. It was seriously a night and day different a few days past my due date. I am still just as OK as I was at 40 weeks and if LO is looking good on the monitors, why would I force him out!?

Are you doing NST's or anything? I'm nervous about going "too far" overdue b/c my Dr says he doesn't do NST's.

I know! I was a NICU nurse for 2 years, so it really strikes a cord with me. All I wanted throughout my entire pregnancy was to make it to my due date. It was such a tremendous relief. A week or two more is a small price to pay for a healthy baby.

Definitely agree. We were going to wait longer, but after LO was not as responsive as they'd like during my NST today, they recommended coming in tonight.

It is not ideal, as I was also hoping to go med-free (and I'll still try my best to go without the epi). But I have no due date confusion (fertility treatments), and at this point, we're worried about the placenta giving out. I am glad I waited until 42 weeks.

No due date confusion here either, but that is because I have had 8 ultrasounds due to a larger than normal ovarian cyst (which is now totally gone).

I agree that 2 weeks late is a small price to pay for a healthy baby. I also feel like we have A LOT of inductions this week for the 40-41 weekers, which kind of goes to show that being late, especially on a first pregnancy, is normal. I wonder how many of the girls being induced at 40-41 weeks would have gone on their own had they waited another week. Obviously, there are medical reasons for earlier inductions, and that is a different story... but being impatient is hardly a good reason!

My LO defintely needed some encouragement to move around during our NST today too, which freaked me out.... except now that I have eaten lunch and am home from the OB's office, he is having a party.... stubborn boy!
