This is just for fun...if anyone is interested.
I am sending off an Aptitude Test for children's literature and I am in need of some inspiration.
I'd like to ask a favor of you...
Could you ask your child one of these questions and let me know their answer?
Q. #1: What kind/kinds of books do you like?
Q. #2: If you could be an animal, what animal would you be?
It must be in their own words. Though I have worked with children of various age groups over that last 10 years or so, I am trying to gain a better concept of age-specific ways of thinking (please indicate the age as well).

so i asked him again and he said "like... paint books" and i asked what other kind of books he likes and he said "like dinosaur books, and my new books"
then he went and got the books of his that he likes.
i then asked about the animal and he said "a dinosaur because i like it"
DD is 3y3m and these are her answers, verbatim:
Q. #1: What kind/kinds of books do you like?
"Ummm, a rocket ship book. I don't like a rocket ship."
"I like um, some, um, superhero books!"
Q. #2: If you could be an animal, what animal would you be?
"Uh, a a fox animal!" (We're watching Fantastic Mr. Fox right now)
"Uhmmm, a baby pygmy goat! A black one." (We were at the zoo on Monday, and she brushed the pygmy goats at the petting zoo section. She's always loved pretending to be animals though- 3-toed sloth, puppy, penguin, spectacle bear....)
Ava what kind of books do you like?-
''ones with horses, orrr the jungle book you read to me, orrrr the princess one.. will you read me the princess one now?''
What animal would you want to be?-
"I am a horsie, a momma horse not a baby horse"

umm, Transformer ones

I like ponies

I am not asking you what you want, what animal would you want to be.
Um I would be a bear one

I want to be a pony. And then she proceeded to prance around the living room.
Tim will be 4 next month and is obsessed with his birthday and what presents he wants. Hence the Transformer responses. Lexi is 2 years 4.5 months

Q. #1: What kind/kinds of books do you like? "I like different kinds of books but I think I like books about pirates."
Q. #2: If you could be an animal, what animal would you be? "A bat." Me: A bat? Why? "Because I like bats - BATman...."

"uuummmmm..... Max & Ruby and Goodnight Moon."
Q. #2: If you could be an animal, what animal would you be?
"UUmmmm...... Can we go to Kmart now?"
me: "No, honey, if you could be any animal, what would you be?"
"Uuummm.... A giraffe. Can I have a cupcake now?"
DD turned 2.5 last month. And incidentally, we had no plans go to to Kmart today or in the near future. She claims that this is her fav store and asks to go there every day.
#1. Caillou books and Clifford books and Martha books (she's talking about the tv show Martha Speaks - mind you we don't own any Caillou or Martha books and she was not watching tv before or when I asked her these questions).
#2. A giraffe. And I want a giraffe book. I do not want baby books because baby books are for babies and I'm not a baby. (giraffe is her favorite animal)
My 4 year old, "I like to read the Cat in the Hat Books"
