Off topic- should I call the cops?

Hey ladies, question. I was just coming back from my lunch break and the car in front of me was driving erratically. Like swerving all over the place. I started following them so I could call the cops but they pulled over and went inside a building. It was 2 punk looking guys. I got the liscence and make and model of car, but im wondering if calling the cops is now pointless since they are no longer driving right now?? I work in a crappy area and it's nothing new for me to deal with calling the cops on a semi-normal basis...

Re: Off topic- should I call the cops?

  • I would. They have to go home sometime, and who knows if they'll be driving any better. I've called the cops on erratic drivers before. Most of the time the police won't do anything, but at least you will fulfill your "civic duty."

  • I probably would too.  It can't hurt, can it?  If they are endangering the lives of others with their reckless driving, I would call.  Even if they are parked right now, the cops can come out and monitor the situation.  HTH.

  • I am a dispatcher and I don't know what the laws are like in your state, but where we live we would ask if the you would be willing to sign the driver's citation and go up against them in court if needed. A lot of times (depending on the department) there is not the manpower to have an officer sit and wait for a vehicle to leave to see if they will be reckless. But if you saw it and have the vehicle information, by all means, call! How else will they learn their lesson?

  • I would call. I have actually called 911 while driving before because the car in front of me was driving very erratically and swerving all over the freeway. After giving the 911 dispatcher the licence plate # and location I didn't hear anything, so I figured nothing ever happened to the guy. Then about a year later I got a call from a lawyer who wanted me to testify against the driver in court because he was finally being charged with drunk driving!
