We need to buy a new inexpensive rug for Warner's room. Between his reflux as a baby and several bouts of stomach flu, the (formerly) beautiful rug in his room is now disgusting. I've tried at least a half dozen different cleaning solutions and nothing has worked to get out the stains. I called a few professional rug cleaners and it will cost around $150-200 to have it cleaned .
[Note to all moms to be: Do not buy a cotton dhurrie rug for your baby's room...they just absorb all liquid and are virtually impossible to clean!!]
So for a new rug, I have looked at Target, Home Depot, Home Goods, Crate & Barrel outlet and Amazon and I haven't found anything that I like yet that is within our price range, which is $200 or less.
I'm also keeping an eye on Craig's list, but haven't seen anything yet. I want something that is at least around 8'x10'. Where am I forgetting to look? Any new places to check out?
ETA: I've been checking Overstock.com, too, but no luck yet!
Re: rug shopping
Home Goods?
Or spring for a more expensive one (PBK or something like that) that's easier to clean?
I just got two custom bound rugs at Home Depot and was very happy with them. The one we got for our bedroom was a cream color with brown and blue speckles which may be nice for a boy's room. It's only 99 cents a square foot plus the binding is 75 cents per linear foot (minimum of $75 for the binding). So, you could get an 10x12 of this rug for $210. I explain the pricing in this post:

If you go to HD, you can see their carpet samples. Ask for the section that's 99 cents and under. It's limited but there are some decent options. The carpet we got was the Mohawk Bay Breeze Pebble Beach.
Also, Home Depot and Lowes both sell pre-bound rugs in various sizes. Also check out JCPenney.com. You can usually find free shipping codes or 15% off codes and you can return the rug to the store if you don't like it. Also, you can buy electronic gift cards from PlasticJungle.com for 86 cents to the dollar. So, whenever I buy something from JCPenney, I buy the gift cards first. For example, $200 in JCPenney gift cards would be $172 so that's another way to save some money.
Good luck!
ETA: I gave the wrong pricing info above. The binding is $1.75 per linear foot (the perimeter of the rug) and they have a requirement of a minimum of $75 for the binding. So, basically the perimeter needs to be at least 44 feet.
Thanks, everyone!
Kendra, I don't know why I didn't think of getting a custom bound rug at HD...that's what we have in our bedroom! The rug we have in our room was a little more expensive than what I'd want for his room, but you are right, there were tons of cheaper options.
I'll be dropping by HD tomorrow...but I'll also check out JCP tonight :-)
Yes, I've been really happy with the two HD rugs we got and we are going to order another one for our family room.
And just so you know, you can get *any* of HD's rugs bound to any size (most come in 12' rolls). So, you can look at all of the colors they have and order whatever you want. You just have to pay by the square foot and then for the binding.
