Nolan is now two days old. He is doing VERY well for being in the NICU. Today was the HARDEST day of my life emotionally. Being discharged from the hospital without your baby is well just....words can not describe. Thank you for all that have been in this situation before sending words/messages of support. He is doing amazingly well though - we are very lucky. He is now in a crib since he has proved that he can maintain his own body temp. He has never been on anything except room air & his feedings have increased in volume 3 times today alone!!
He has to maintain the feedings & gain his weight right now. He has lost a "bit" but that is expected. I'm doing my best to pump & get my milk in....that's hard - they said my milk would be delayed a "bit" because of his steroid shots for his lungs. I'm dedicated though & will do whatever it takes. The NICU is very supportive of moms trying to breastfeed & while I'm not getting very much out of pumping - I'm armed with my syringes to capture what I can out of every nook & cranny of the pump & give him what I call "dessert"
If he did not feed his full amount tonight at midnight he will go on a feeding tube tomorrow so I'm praying that he did...right now I'm too afraid to call & ask - I've had about 10 hours sleep total since Friday night when my water broke.
Overall he is amazing & I never knew how much I could love someone.
Please keep us up in your thoughts & prayers...they are so greatly appreciated. I will try to update when I can & check in!
I feel bad that I'm missing out so much of the board activity I will catch up!! I hope everyone is doing well!!
For those that have offered borrowing of preemie clothes - please check your pm's in the next couple of days. Your generosity is so GREATLY appreciated & I will most likely be taking you up on the offers.
Here's a pic from earlier tonight. First time he had his eyes open for any length of time
Re: 2- Day Old Nolan Update
Hope he had a good night!
If you need any tips on pumping to build supply, feel free to let me know. I exclusively pumped because of BFing issues so I know all the little tricks.

I hope you are able to get some rest. My MW was very adamant with me that getting some sleep would help my milk come in - I hardly slept from when I went into labor until a day after leaving the hospital. It seems like it took FOREVER for my milk to come in.
I hope he continues to get stronger and keeps his weight on - best of luck!

That picture is beyond precious. What a treat it must have been for you to be able to look into his eyes and tell him how much you love him and are so glad he is here!
I'm glad he is doing so remarkably well. I'm sure it was extraordinarily difficult to be discharged without your baby, but try to take advantage of the time you have now to get some sleep and let your body recover. It will do wonders for your BF supply and you will need all the energy you can get for that.
Congrats again on the arrival of your precious boy.

I have been wondering how you and baby Nolan have been doing. Glad to see the little man is doing well!
I exclusively pumped for a year because I could never get DS to latch on. If you have any questions regarding pumping, myself or several others can always answer your questions!
DS #1 born January 2010. DS #2 due June 2014.
Aww he is so precious!! So glad he is doing well!
I was discharged a full week before DD, and I still remember how emotionally awful that day was! Hang in there. It was such a helpless feeling, but I knew she was in excellent hands in the NICU, and DH and I drove back and forth to the hospital 3-4x a day to feed her and just bond with her.
I also started pumping early on, but it took awhile for my milk to come in due to delivering early. I would pump and bring it to the NICU for bottles along with trying to nurse. (Unfortunately, she never could nurse exclusively due to her tiny size and failure to thrive status, so I pumped for 3 mos. then had to FF.) Best of luck to you!!
