Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Need Help Talking to Grandpa about NOT SPANKING

My Father has been babysitting my son since he was 3 months old. The baby is turning One tomorrow. This morning my son had a little tantrum and my Father clapped his hands together and spoke sternly at my son, it was the first time I'd witnessed him get angry at the baby. He didnt hit him but it unerved me since My Father would spank my Sister when we were growing up (but not me.)

The baby is getting into a stage of temper tantrums, and I DO NOT WANT ANYONE laying a finger on my baby. Anyone been through something similar, and how did you handle it.

  • Just tell him! Clapping - okay. Spanking - not okay.

Or whatever rules you want, you know. Just suck it up and do it!

This. If someone is watching your child, they need to know exactly what you want. My dad watches our daughter and I am very clear about what I want and don't want. If you aren't you are just going to end up being upset about things and they won't even know.

  • This is what I tell my parents & in-laws.

We do not spank. Please remember than we will be the ones picking out your nursing home and we will remember how you treated the baby.

I say it with a big smile. It gets my point across.

  • Just tell him.  He's your dad so it should be pretty easy.

  • My parents spanked me and H's parents spanked him so I thought it may be an issue.  I simply said the day they spanked any of my children was the last day they would see them.

I also told them that the baby knew sign language and would tell me.  But that was just a joke.  I trust my parents and H;s parents to follwo my wishes.

I can also say grandparents behave completely different than they do as grandparents.

Ask for advice or suggestions does not mean she cannot form a thought. It is healthy to seek out constructive advice.

  • In general, I find all "How do I tell my (insert family member here) that I want (insert demand here)?" posts to be pointless. You say "Dear (family member), I want (demand). Please get on that."

While I do not think buddha is a *** at all, I do think you are one.  I also appreciate that she does not need any camoflauge to post on a message board.

  • I'm finding this comical. I wasn't even mean. I just didn't hold her hand and whisper sweet nothings in her ear.
