DH and I are (me especially) want to paint our living room. It is a tall room with lots of light. Right now we have dark leather furniture and a dark wood electric fireplace console that our HUGE TV sits on. Our walls were painted in the living room when we moved in and we never changed them, an extremely dark brown accent wall and the rest of the walls and hallway are light brown. It is time for a change! I want to go with a lighter color that reflects alot of light like a mint blue, a light yellow, or a light green. But, DH wants to leave the dark brown wall and go with a darker green for the other walls. (I don't like this idea) What do you ladies think? What color is your living room, and do you like it?
3 walls are the typical beige type color and one wall is like a rusty redish/orange. LR was painted this way when DH bought it in Jan. '07.
Kitchen is green, bathroom is white, office is dark purple, and bedroom is lavender, baby's room is currently grayish but will be painted shortly after we find out the sex next Thurs!
Two walls are sort of a medium goldish-tan color, the others are cream. We have sort of moss-green/sage furniture. I like it...they were painted like that when we moved in.
Personally, the colors your DH wants sound way too dark with all the dark wood and furniture accents you also have going. I think it's fine to have one dark accent wall, but I think all 4 is going to be way too heavy. I like your idea
I have a friend with similar sounding dark brown furniture and dark-ish wood floors. She just painted 3 walls beige and one wall a rusty reddish orange color. She got a nice area rug that really tied it together and it looks awesome. It brightened up the room nicely.
Your ideas sound nice to me - your H's, not so much. We have Travertine by SW in our living room, and I LOVE the color. It's really warm and inviting to me. When the sun is setting, it's a rich yellow. When it's light out, it's just a fresh and airy cream. Since painting my living room, I've repainted my hallway and mudroom with this color.
We have a green in our dining room (though I wouldn't necessarily call it a light green). It's Clary Sage by SW. We used to have it painted ancient marble (SW again), but I hated it... it always just looked dirty to me.
Our living room is a soft buttery yellow. We have dark wood tables and bookcases and a khaki/tan sofa and chair. Oh and olive drapes. I like a good combination of light and dark tones!
ETA: found a picture! Safari won't let me PIP, though, boo.
I call our color "golden suede". It's a very lustrous medium yellow. Our living room is similar to yours: tall (vaulted) ceiling, dark furniture and woodwork. We have cranberry pillows and curtains as accents and bright colored modern art on the walls. The color looks very bright but neutral during the day and very rich-looking at night. See link: https://colorbuzz.valsparblog.com/2008/10/color-of-the--1.html. It's the Jekyll Club Veranda Yellow. The link is REALLY orange--it doesn't really look like that. They have it at Lowe's if you want to check it out.
Thanks ladies for all your help. DH likes the color Gleeful by SW. But, IMO it's not as neutral as I would like. I really want to do a soft neutral yellow like some PPs suggested. DH and I are going to get small samples of Gleeful and I might get friendly yellow. Links to our colors below. Anyway, I really appriciate your input!

I know, I know, I was a little freaked out when she told be about it but it really looks nice. Maybe I'm not explaining it well.

Bump Unofficial Glossary
The walls are taupe. The furniture is black. The rug and other decorations are dark red, gold and sage green.
Personally, I prefer neutral colored walls b/c that gives you a lot of room to change the other things down the road.

Friendly yellow is a nice color IMO. I don't really like Gleeful, but of course that's personal preference. It's too minty/lime-ey to me.
