I asking for my BFF here. She is 35 and pregnant with her first baby. She doesn't want to go back on BC pill after LO is born (based on the age recommendation). What method(s) do you use? TIA
I'd first have her speak to her OB re: her age and the pill. I'm nearly 41 and my OB only recently said to me that she didn't want me on the pill (higher dose) due to my age. She said low dose was OK, but the recommendation for me is the Mirena IUD. I'm waiting for insurance approval to get it--or start a new pill the following month (late March).
But, again, I didn't even START on birth control pills until I was 33 or 34 (for my acne, I wasn't in a relationship). It seems somewhat odd to me to read no pills at only age 35 unless there are other health issues.
I am on the mirena. I chose this because I was still nursing last year & did not want anything with hormones. Pretty sure we are done with babies.. but just in case - I wanted something that could be easy to remove & start quickly. I can't say that I love it - I think my body is still adjusting since I stopped nursing in October.
I had a Mirena inserted 7 weeks after delivery. It's really awesome, as I have had no weight gain like other methods. I had spotting after insertion, but that went away after 4 weeks. I have not been visited by AF either. My periods were very heavy after age 40, so this was a key issue for me.
