Where to live near Murfreesboro?

DH is going to meet with a company on Friday and it may require us to move to TN if he accepts the job.  The company is located in Murfreesboro and we would like to live no more than 20-30 minutes drive.  I will most likely be a SAHM if we move so I would like to be near activities for LO...currently we do babytime at the library and Gymboree.  We also require a good school district with houses priced in the low $200.  Our current neighborhood has swimming pools, tennis courts, clubhouse, basketball court, walking trails.  I would love to find something that offers the same amenities.  Any suggestions?

I have heard Franklin is nice but I think it is out of our price range.

  • Murfreesboro is nice, but if you're raising a family, I'd leave in the Blackman area (farther away from MTSU campus). There are also parts of neighboring Smyrna that are nice! GL

  • I grew up in Murfreesboro and I absolutely love it.  I now live about 30 southeast, but still travel there often.  Since Rutherford County is one of the fastest growing counties in the country, there's always plenty of activities for you and the kids.  You could definitely find a home in your price range in M'boro.  I do agree with the Blackman area, although some of the houses are more pricey there.  You can check out www.realtracs.com to find real estate in the Mid-state.  Smyrna is also a great choice.  It's still in Rutherford County and is really close to M'boro.  It's also close to Nashville so that offers even more activity ideas for you.  Regardless, M'boro is only about 30 min. from Nashville so it's not a far drive either way.  I live in Manchester (Coffee County) which is about 30 min. away.  It has it's pros and cons.  The housing costs are much less than Rutherford County, but it's a more rural area so you have to drive 30 min to find something to do.  Let me know if you need any other info.  I'd be happy to help :)

  • Thanks for the feedback!!  His meeting was good and the offer is what we expected.  I am so scared to move away and quit my job, eek.  I will let you ladies know if we decide to move.  I will need some friends when I get there!

  • I live in the Blackman Farm area and there are a ton of really great houses for sale. Plus, the Blackman Farm area is out of the "downtown" area of the Boro, close to I-24 if you need to drive to Nashville often, and you get all the perks of being close to the happenings. Congrats on your husband's new job and good luck with the move!

  • My DH and I live in Smyrna and have for the last 2.5 years since moving here from Florida. We definitely like Smyrna & now that we are having a little one can imagine raising a family here due to the very family oriented feel of the town and residents. Everything is within easy driving distance, and since I-24 runs through Smyrna/Murfreesboro it is just a hop, skip, and jump to get into Nashville. I work in Brentwood & it is only about a 30 minute drive for me to get to work every day. I have found that Rutherford County is an excellent choice for reasonably priced housing as well. Best of luck to you on your move!
