SSI/FMLA in CA

Hi:

Although a native Californian, this is my first baby in CA. I had my DD in NC, which does not have a state sponored disability program. My question is, what is the disability policy for the state. I have researched and seem to find that you have 6-8 weeks of short term disability after birth as well as paid family leave for another 6 weeks.

I realize I can ask my employer, but don't plan to let that cat out of the bag until December; I'd really like to formuate a plan now.

 Any help is greatly appreciated!

    You have it exactly right. 6 weeks short term for vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for cesarean. (sp?) Your Dr. can also write you out 4 weeks prior to your due date if you are in excruciating pain. (hint, hint).

    You can also ask your Dr. office they will let you know what website to go to.

    I don't think you need much to get a note for the 4 weeks before your due date.  My dr. was like whenever, just let me know when you want me to write you out of work.  I s/have taken it, but was trying to be a good worker and wanted full salary as long as possible.

    With DD, I was only out on high BP, I was also trying to be a good worker :)  I keep reading of two seperate types of leave. One is a medical which is a 6-8 week and another is 'family bonding" which is also paid and can be up to 6 weeks. I must be confusing it as the same thing.

    I took over 12 weeks with DD and I know not only 6 weeks was paid.

    So you can take approx up to 7 months leave...4 weeks before Labor (Pregnancy Disability Leave) 12 weeks FMLA/PDL and 12 weeks CFRA/Baby Bonding.

    SDI(State Disability)-You can get paid approx 12 weeks, 4 weeks prior to Labor but there is a 7 day grace period which will not be paid. 6 weeks if normal delivery 8 weeks if CS....then another 6 weeks from Paid Family Leave (PFL) to total 12-14 weeks....

    Leaves and how you get paid are 2 totally different things...
