This really helped me out when DS was very small - it makes sense and completely worked for us when I stuck to the theories. It's a pretty easy and quick read too.

solve your child's sleep problems by dr. ferber. i wish i would've read it earlier (didn't read until ds was a year and still waking every two hours all night).
i loved BabyWise. Worked with DD so I'm re-reading this go round.
Both my sisters swear by BabyWise, and I'm reading it now and it makes so much sense!
"My bounty is as boundless as the sea,
My love as deep; the more I give to thee,
The more I have, for both are infinite."
-Romeo and Juliet Act II, Scene 2
Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby. By Marc Weissbluth is another good read. I have read this one plus No Cry Sleep Solution and a friend is going to loan me the Babywise book. I kinda combine the different methods into a routine I feel comfortable with.
First I have a disclaimer: do not become discouraged if your baby does not respond to a particular method prescribed in a baby sleep book. It just means that method isn't right for your baby, or that your baby isn't ready. Hang in there and try again in a few weeks. I pulled my hair out when baby whisperer and babywise did nothing but make matters worse. In my opinion they push sleep training and cry it out methods on babies who are too young. Some babies can learn to sleep through the night at an early age, but I do not believe it is the norm. Ultimately DS wasn't really ready to respond to sleep training techniques until he was about 6 months old, and in the end it was the Ferber book that helped us the most. The Weissbluth book was less rigid than baby whisperer and babywise, but ultimately did not help us as much as the ferber book did.

LOVED Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child.
It was much more baby-lead than Babywise, and it was perfect for DS who has very strong natural rhythms.
