Re: buying baby things......

  • My shower is in march I havent bought much, I have my crib, bassinet and changing table and bedding set. Everything else I registered for like car seat stroller etc. I have not bought any clothes except winter ones for the upcoming year.  People usually love to buy clothes and blankets and teether toys etc.  Dont know if that helps or not

  • We've only bought like nursery furniture and decor. Maybe a few items of clothing. But we're holding off on really buying anything until after the shower. We don't want to end up with multiples of one thing. We've also bought the car seat/stroller combo. Honestly, that's about it. Once the shower is over we'll go through everything and make a list of what is left that we need.
  • With my first pregnancy, I only bought nursery furniture before my showers.  I waited until after the showers to buy the remaining things on my registry.  People attending my showers bought a lot of clothing, but a few colleagues got together to buy some bigger ticket items like the Pack-n-Play and stroller/car seat travel system.

  • We bought our stroller/car seat combo. And a few small things. MIL buys different types and sizes of diapers every time she goes to the store so we have a pretty good stock pile to try out. We'll get the crib and curtains beforehand so that we can get started on the room but that is about it.
  • my shower is april 9th and I have only bought a few outfits (on clearance). i have been out of work since august and things have been tight. i know that our friends are buying us a crib and my "aunt" (mom's bff) is buying us a travel system. I am hopping to get the other things at the shower and if not I will be hitting the mom 2 mom sales and the salvation army in the area. my MIL works for the SA so she lets us know when good things come in and she gets a discount. :o) I highly recomend getting things this way, just not car seats unless you trust the person and know that it has not been in an accident and is not over 6 years old.
  • I'm trying to wait til after my showers at the end of April to buy anything.  I've heard people say that you really don't NEED most of the baby gear right away.  In the beginning your baby just needs a car seat to get home in, a place to sleep, source of food, diapers, and some clothes.  I'm trying to stick with that philosophy so I don't get stressed out about needing to buy everything right now!  :)
  • We've bought furniture & some decor stuff. And I bought a breastpump bc of the crazy Target clearance. We were given a bathtub & bouncer, and I ended up buying the humidifier off my registry so I could use it myself. And we bought two outfits the day we found out she was a girl. Smile

My shower is early, March 12th, so I'm waiting until after that to buy much else. I figured if we don't get some of the big things like PNP, Jumparoo, etc that those are good things to buy used. There is a great consignment sale here at the end of March!

One thing I've had to tell myself (and it has totally been true!) is that if things go on sale once, they'll usually go on sale again. I kept getting all panicked when I saw our crib go on sale before we found out the sex (I had one crib picked for a boy, one for a girl), and it has been on sale several times since we found out.

  • Unless parents are planning on buying the furniture I'd get all of that and register for pretty much everything else if money is tight.  You never know what people will buy for showers so this way hopefully you're not buying too much.

The only stuff we're looking to buy ourselves are furniture, nursery accessories (baskets, art work, etc.) the diaper bag (I couldn't find the one I fell in love with anywhere I'm registering and Amazon only had one so I bought it with a GC I got for Christmas), some books and toys.

We'll register for most everything else (besides clothes and bibs since people will buy that on their own for fun) hoping we don't have to buy too much later, but knowing we'll have to buy some stuff.

  • I'm itching to buy things, but my mom keeps telling me to wait til after the shower.  She had initially told me that a couple of the items that I added for the completion discount were expensive (like the glider) and I should remove them, but more recently she told me to keep them there and not buy them.  So I assume relatives want to get them for us - though it's tough to wait, I think I will, and will just get everything after the shower.

Our registries are in-store at BRU and online at Amazon, so it should be easy to get everything after the shower.  BRU will be one trip, and I can just add things to my cart on Amazon and check out.  Gotta love free delivery with the Amazon mom program :)

  • We already have a ton of stuff. We purchased the crib, dresser, mattress, bedding, changing pad, travel system, and breast pump. When we purchased our home we bought 2 pack n plays off of Craigslist as all of our friends had little ones and they have been super nice to have for nap times or when it is bed time and the adults are still socializing, so we already have those. We were also given a bouncer and a my breast friend nursing pillow from a friend.

We will also be purchasing the rocker/glider for the nursery.

I have been told I need to stop buying things until after the shower. I in no way shape or form expect to receive everything off of my registry, so DH and I are setting aside money in savings each month that will do towards purchasing the remaining items. This is our solution for buying things up front.

You should be good. Just wait until after your shower now.

  • So far we've already purchased a crib, dresser, bookshelf, wall decorations, curtains, some adorable clothes (b/c I couldn't resist, but they were all very reasonably priced), books, and a pack n play and bouncer seat that were both 50% off at Target. I will be ordering a glider from BRU shortly because I just received a 20% off coupon in the mail and want to take advantage of it.

I have a shower being thrown for me on April 2nd and then a work shower sometime in April as well. There are still plenty of things on my registry to choose from, but I don't foresee many people buying the "big ticket" items except for a small amount of immediate family members.
