Sicknesses this year.

Ya'll know I am a germaphobe, but this is crazy. I know kids get sick, I know they get sick in the winter, but I just can't believe all the viruses and bugs and whatnot have been around the last few months. Some doozies too.

I am lucky to have incredibly healthy kids, rarely ever sick and in the past month we have had the stomach virus (all of us), strep throat, nasty colds with fevers, croup/pneumonia and Dh has a sinus infection. Are you kidding me?

My playdate for tomorrow is cancelled with too many kids sick.

I know you guys have had lots of sick kiddos too. It's been awful.

If anyone needs me, I am hiding under a rock, or taking baths in bleach.

Re: Sicknesses this year.

  • I hear you. I had a sinus infection in October (for which I was on steroids and 7 mos. pregnant at the time, and had to be a bridesmaid- not pretty photos of me), a stomach bug in November (threw up in our car on the way to get our Christmas tree) and the flu in Dec/Jan- all while in my 3rd trimester of pregnancy. The week after I had the flu, the girls came down with really bad colds that lead to ear infections.  I'm just thankful that they didn't get the actual flu (I was lucky to have help with them to prevent them from getting it) and that it hasn't stuck around too much, especially with Ava being in preschool this year.  That week that Ava had that ear infection though- my word, she didn't sleep at all and would scream in  pain and cry all day.  This was all before Lila's arrival, which was a blessing.  However, it been stressful having a newborn during flu season.  I am hibernating as much as possible, because even with all of this nastiness going around, nosey strangers still will not hesitate to get in your newborn's face.  You would think they would be more with it.  Ugh.

  • It really has been an awful winter for germs. We're finally feeling better after a month with at least one of us being sick. Nora and I have both been sick twice just in this month alone. Thankfully, Iris only has had one ear infection and so far appears to be spared from the other illnesses. We weren't sick at all last winter.
  • Children's Hospital is hopping with all of the above illnesses! It is a total mess here!

Luckily this is the best winter jacob has had since he has been born.  I sure hope this is a turning point for us.

  • I don't know what it is........this has been a hell of a long winter.  It's been so darn cold since the beginning of December........I think people are all stuck inside and when a germ hits, BAM!  There's nowhere else for it to go and since we're all cooped up, it just continues to live on in the warm heat of our homes.  Seriously!

Spring can't get here fast enough for me.

  • I hate this Winter. It's driving me crazy. I'm a germaphobe as it is, add a newborn/infant to the mix, and forget it. We're holed up until I stop seeing threads on here and FB status updates about people being sick!

  • Amen.  When I stopped for the antibiotics I picked up some Lysol wipes, Lysol, and anti-bacterial hand gel stuff.

I'm kicking myself in the butt for not taking DS back sooner for his whooping cough.  He had to have come in contact with someone who had it.  Now I have to call my sitter and tell her that he may have it and all the other kids have been exposed. Sad  I feel like a real peach of a mom for sending DS to the sitter these past six weeks, but we really thought he just had a sinus infection.  Oh well...

    Happy disinfecting all!

  • Amen to all of the above.  Charlotte has had a runny nose since before Asher was born and just got over a terrible cough/cold which Asher ended up getting and landed him in the damn hospital!  Finally, this week they both seem healthy.  You can bet your a$$ they are staying away from the outside world until spring arrives.  Ugh.

  • It is horrible this year!  DD so far has been ok (knock on wood!), but my students have been dropping like flies and now I have something that I can't seem to kick, not sure if it's a bug or allergies but it's hanging on forever.  I cringe every time a student comes into my office just waiting to pick the flu bug up that is going around.
  • I am sooooo over this winter and all of the sickness it has brought.  As much as I liked having those warm days last week, I think the sudden change in temps just made us all sick...again.  I had a migraine for four days, then DD started with the snots (again) and now DH and I have it.  Ugh.  Come on spring!!

I hope everyone starts feeling better!

  • I'm glad we're not the only family.  I have had tremendous guilt over my baby's many illnesses this winter.  She has basically been sick since November.  She just got done with 21 days of antibiotics and she's already developed a regular cold on top of her previous infection.  I am sick of being sick.
