infant vitamin drops??

my pedi said at our two wk appt to start these and the recommendations have changed since we had DS1. they brand I found was by Enfamil but I'm not so sure about them. the dosage is 1ml which seems like a lot, plus the color is horrible. it is yellowish but then turns black on his clothes where he spit it up and even on my hands where I got some. Wth? anyone else using this stuff?

  • And they stink, taste rancid, and make poops smell terrible. Yup, it's totally normal. We use poly-vi-sol 1mL in 1oz of BM I can't believe she actually drinks it.

  • If you are breastfeeding you only need the vitamin D drops. D-vi-sol. No staining and they smell sweet. If you had a premature baby or your baby is deficient in nutrients then you would need the combination vitamin.

  • My pedi said to use just d-visol, not polyvisol because babies have a tendency to barf it up and refuse to eat if you give them polyvisol because they taste so bad. She said you only really need to give them the d-visol anyway.

This is what my pedi said too - and it smells super sweet, like honey.

This is what my pedi recommends too.  The Vit-D is the important part but she also shared that di-vi-sol can be hard to find and always use tri-vi-sol before going to poly-vi-sol because even the Tri drops don't taste as nasty as the Poly drops.  DS loved them - crazy kid!  We have yet to make it to the store to get drops for DD.

  • My pedi said that if we continued to BF then she needed a full 1 ml but if we had to FF then we do half of a ml, but my daughter lost almost a pound in a week while I was BF. We use the poly vitamin drops she prescribed us.

There must be some national shortage or something... I got mine on Amazon and have seen them at BRU and on drugstore.com, but it looks like they're all out right now. I did find them in stock on Diapers.com though.
